    Tires...

    Folks,

I heard a rumor that, in Jan 2010, China will levy a massive price increase on auto tires. Is this true? My wife's car will be needing tires at some point, probably 6 months or so. If this is true, we'll go ahead and get new tires NOW!

I heard about this from a guy at work whose wife had a tire blow-out and the gentlemen who helped her said this. Not sure about this and just wanted confirmation.

Unfortunately this is true but only on the tires that your wife needs all others will stay the same price.

Sorry, just kidding I don't know.

Sounds like a good way to turn a 1 tire sale into 4 tires.

It does sound like and old tactic for an up-sell to me.

Next the guy will tell you to fill your tires with Helium to save on gas by making the car lighter.

It is not China raising prices. Our government is raising tariffs on chinese made tires to counteract supposed dumping by the Chinese.

I'm not sure if I'd want Chinese tires on my car; then again, I might now and not know it.

Almost every tire sold in America is made here; here is a link to an article explaining the breakdown of American made companies.

Hope this helps, personally, I prefer MIchelin for my 2004 Dodge Cummins. That is the one thing the French do well besides food, is make tires.....

I'll bet the Chinese somehow end up having lead in their tire line...there's lead in everything else they make.

I work for a Toyo dealer in ND... The tariff caused nearly 60% increases in some Chinese made tires, and that, unfortunately is most tires on the road today.

What we saw is huge price gouging by tire companies that makes their products in Europe and the Americas... It's a horrible and unfortunate fact, and while it seems to be a sales tactic, it's the truth.

For all of you in cold weather regions, don't forget to go get changed over to winter air! :-)
