DOGS!!!
I put this here to vent and keep the tender ears of some from being bruised but this is NO 3!!! DA People that think it is a grand idea to let their dogs run loose in the country, has again cost my daughter another of her prized farm animals.
As of today in 3 seperate incidents over the last 2 years she has lost 1 sheep, 4 goats, (counting the latest) 4 ducks, 6 chickens, 1 cat and a very expensive Llama to dog attacks.
In each incident a pit bull was involved!!! Previous time she was there put a .357 end to it, but this time country animal control showed up first and has the 2 dogs and are attempting to find the owners!!! Yeah so far the $$$$$$ total is over 20K....
There ought to be a season on them!!!

There is where I am at. Any dog killing livestock can be legally shot on the spot.

Triple S, is what I would do if they were on my property, and a threat to my family/livestock!

There is whenever I have the chance, IMHO they do not need to be in the act of killing, I KNOW they are on their way to wreak havoc and kill, so I will dispatch them whenever
We have talked about dogs before here and I will submit info pertaining to the proper type of guardian dogs, specifically for this type of situation
Dogs considered to have a good guarding ability
Gold Strike Boer Goats - Boer Goats in Ohio
With the great pyrenees being In my opinion the best balance of temperment/availability,good with kids/price,, etc
Check out the goldstrikeboergoats.com for some good real life specifics on these protectors. In my opinion, 2-3 pits would not stand a chance.
Okay, I pulled the pin. Now what? Hey! Where are ya going?

We had incidents at the barn as well
I used to work at a horse barn and had a couple incidents over the couple of years I worked there. The same dogs were involved in two of them. The first time we had a group of girl scouts on site and had no choice but to run them off. The second time though They were taken care of in the permanent form. I remember the manager being a little shocked I had a gun in my truck. I understand your frustration completely but you can't fix the problem unless you see it.

Talk about sheepdogs. Good husbandry is protecting the flock.

Where I'm at we do not call animal control or even 911. We practice SSS.
Shoot, Shovel, Shutup.

The shortcoming of that methodology is that you have to be around to see the dogs causing the damage or losses. With a few good shepherd dogs on the job it is like having the most sensitive security system that money can buy. And once the threat is detected, they engage without hesitation.

Dogs running loose and causing problems has always been a problem. This summer we lost all of our chickens in one night to dogs.

Yep. That's what we used to do when we lived in the country.
I had the neighbors from hell who said they moved to the country so their dogs could run loose.
Their 3 dogs killed about 20 of my chickens, a baby lamb, and the final straw came one day when they mauled my 15 year old Australian Shepherd (Lucy). Lucy didn't stand a chance.
I waited and set a trap. I caught all 3 of those freaking, murdering dogs.
One by one, I put a bullet in their ear.
The only regret that have is that I should have shot the dogs before they killed Lucy. The guilt is something I have to live with..
Sometimes on a clear day, I can see into the future with this spotting scope.

Yes, send the owner a bill.
Get yourself some dogs to guard the flock or maybe even a donkey. A donkey is what my uncle always had to keep dogs away from his goats.
If I gave a crap about what you think about my guns.....it was early this morning and I already flushed it!
