My son recently came home from Iraq on a Red Cross emergency (his wife is in the hospital). In the haste to get him on a plane, no one instructed him to check his M16 into the armory there.
While processing through Kuwait, the upper echelon guys freaked that he still had his weapon. They said that they might have to send him back to Iraq and check it in.
One Gunnery Sergeant told him:
"Son, I don't see any way around it. We gotta send you back to Iraq"
"I ain't going back just to drop off my gun"
"There's nothing else we can do"
"With all due respect Gunny, I'm the only one carrying a weapon here. Who's going to make me?"
The Gunny laughed. My son did not.
They made an exception.

Hope he finds his wife out of danger and getting better. Must have been pretty worrying.

That trip back to Iraq would be what we coined "The Big Green Weenie".
