    Traffic Stop

I was pulled over yesterday and I thought what the cop asked was strange, even for my area.

I turned left to go from the expressway to my house and ended up in the middle (median) waiting, The cop appeared behind me and I went strait, his light lit up and I pulled over. Lowered my drivers side windows and flipped the lights on, he came to my right and I put them down.

He asked me out of the car so I got out of my pickup and walked to the back.

I have the habit of standing with my hands behind my back like they usually show military, I just feel comfortable standing like that, This is how it played out.

    Cop:Where are you comeing from?

Me: I went to wal-mart to pickup a skeletool

    cop: A What?

    me: A leatherman tool called a skeletool....its a tool

cop: who is in the car

    me: my girlfriend

cop: Where do you have your insurance

    me: on the top visor

    cop: go get it

(This is where it gets kinda weird)

Cop: Who is in your car

    me: my girlfriend

    cop:are you sure

    me:yeah (confused look)

cop : how long have you been together

    me: 4 years

    Cop: live together

    me: yes

    cop: how long

    me: 4 years

    Cop: Where do you live?

    me: up the street

cop: this is buena vista st

    me: yes sir

after about 2-3 minutes of talking to my girlfriend (Cindy) he came back and said

cop: you know your stickers expired

me: yes sir, I have been riding motorcycles so I had the truck sitting, now my girlfriend is going back to school so we took it out today to make sure its running and tomorrow pick up a tire and get the sticker

cop: ok, I am going to give you a written warning

    me: ok

    Thats how it ended

When we got home I asked cindy what he asked her

    Cop: who is he?

    Cindy: my boyfriend

    cop: are you sure?

    cindy: yes

cop: Where are you comeing from?

Cindy: walmart, we went to buy a tool (shows tool)

    cop: grocery shopping

    cindy:no, tool

    Cop: Where are you going

Cindy: up the street, we live 3 houses down.

I thought it was the strangest conversation I have ever had with a cop.

He asked If I had ever been pulled over, and I said yes speeding, asked if I had any warrants, I said not that I am aware of, he asked if I was sure about twice.

Now maybe I am looking too much into this but this was just odd.

I had my Mtech tactical folder in my back pocket and havent work my 4 ft chain wallet in a few days (been useing my money clip)

I was basically wondering what everyones thoughts on this is.

    Thank You
    Spade115

(If this is in the wronge section could I ask that it please be moved, Thank You)

Could have been a "runaway" or abduction in the area. He was most likely seeing if your story changed or hers. No biggie. Your vehicle may have been close enough in description to warrant the extra interest.

Just wanted an opinion because I have almost been shot a few times just stepping off of my vehicle.. In La Joya, cops are notorious for getting on the trigger befor asking questions.

Thats not a strange line of questions at all. I know exactly why he was asking what he was asking and what he was thinking. But, I'm not going to post it. Somebody probably else will anyway.

And never get out of your car unless asked to do so.

This is possibly the biggest reason for all the questions, if you get out of the car the cop thinks you are trying to hide something inthe car.

    Not so strange.

As Sixto says, there was a reason he was asking those questions. Usually rookies fresh out of the academy are the ones doing the asking though.

They're trying to catch you in a lie so that they can search you and your car. The lie gives them PC since you wouldn't lie except if you were trying to cover up something criminal.

I've been asked the "where do you live" question several times. My answer is the same one I give for EVERY question. [insert the sound of crickets here].

How many times do we have to tell you - DO NOT EVER talk to the cops! About ANYTHING!

It's not a "theory" because it's a technique that is taught in the academy. Sometimes LEO will detain someone who's ID doesn't look right (or they have no id) and they will ask the "where do you live?" question. If the guy doesn't know, can't give the address on his ID, or he says "right here" but doesn't know the house number, etc., LEO KNOWS he's lying and has given false information to a police office during an investigation (felony). Instant bust and a permissible search incident to arrest.

It's overly aggressive "fishing" and can land LEO in hot water if pushed (excessive detention = arrest without PC). After a few complaints LEO learn/are told not to do this anymore unless they suspect that there's really something going on beyond the ID. Well, MOST of them learn/get told. Some don't because they either don't care or the dept doesn't care.

I don't know how LEO feel about it but from my POV it can pay the bills.

LOL, yeah I came to the conclussion that he thought my ol lady was a prostitute, and I knew someone was going to say something about me not having said anything. lol

And I prolly do look like a weirdo. lol

I just thought it was odd because I have been pulled over ALOT for speeding and a few minor indescretions (no signals, a buddy decided to stick his head out of my jeep rag top. But never this string of questioning I just thought it was strange.

    Thank you for your reply's.
