In the other thread where the discussion is about sheep dogs vs sheep, it reminds me of a discussion we had about ... if you were a dog, what breed of dog would you be, and why ?
I'm definitely a terrier, they are lovable, nice, loyal and friendly (even to strangers) ... unless someone or another dog shows aggression towards them or their family ... then they will defend and protect. IF they are threatened, backing down or running is not in their mindset, but rather one where a strong offense is the best defense. If a dog twice their size attacks them, they will win or die trying.
I'm probably more like our old Rhodesian Ridgeback we had to say 'goodbye' to last year.
Situational awareness is extremely high...I love to take naps on the couch...I like other people, but prefer only a few close friends...I am constantly on the lookout for treats the domestic general has set out by mistake prior to a meal...I'm not looking for trouble, but if cornered by the wrong party, my response will be quick and violent (hope it never has to happen)...from a distance, most people 'wonder' if I'm friendly.

I'd like to say I'm an Alaskan Malamute, just like my fur-kid. but I'm just not sure.
Someday I'd love to be as special as my boy thinks I am.

I identify myself with a greyhound (like my buddies laying next to me).
I'm quick on my feet, thinks fast, knows how to work though obstacles, can be a bit stubborn, my big teeth make me seem meaner than I really am, I am friendly to most people but there are a few that make my hairs stand on end and I don't want anything to do with, I'm always looking out for treats, am a devoted partner, and like to take long naps after a hard days work.
I'm not a dog. I'm a cat.
Dogs are born slaves. Cats are born free citizens.

I am definitely a cat. The funny thing is I just pointed this out to my wife this morning.

I am a cat. the difference between a cat and a dog is that dogs are suserviant and are owned by the human, the cats are free spirits and own the human.
Cats do obey when it suits them. They know the rules but choose which ones to abide by.

Defiantly a o'l hound dog
Timid people sleep peacefully at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.
I grew up with Siamese cats. (My mom hated dogs,) and cats can be very obedient and loyal. But only when they feel like it. They might be rebels, but I've seen dogs with a similar mindset. Seems like its all about the individual animal.
