Since you paid the bill in full I would call them and politely ask if they would remove the additional charge. They may put you through to a supervisor who has the authority to authorize it.
The same thing happened to me recently. The bill was paid in full two months prior...I received no further statements...until I received a notice that the account was overdue and a late fee was being imposed. I called and spoke with the operator and then the supervisor. (all the while being very polite). I asked them to remove the charge and cancel the card. They did so as well as agree to send me a letter to the effect that the account was closed.
