    Agreed to be Branded???

At the risk of getting tagged for "language" used, could we consider this guy a dumb (insert bad word for buttocks here)!

To think, our universities and other learning establishments are going to chuck out those who someday may be running for President!

Police: Student willingly had his buttocks branded

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (AP) -- Breckenridge authorities said a Texas Christian University student who suffered burns when his peers branded his buttocks participated in the act willingly and no charges will be filed.

Authorities said Thursday they made the decision not to pursue charges after reviewing statements from Amon Carter IV and a dozen TCU students. The Summit Daily News reported that Carter had Greek symbols from his fraternity and a sorority branded on his buttocks Jan. 8 during a trip to Breckenridge and needed surgery after suffering second-and third-degree burns.

Investigators said what happened was not part of a fraternity initiation because Carter was already a group member.

Carter is the great-grandson of Amon G. Carter, Sr., who founded the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

May seem like a stupid question, but how does one get branded WITHOUT getting burned? Sometimes I think news reporters are some of the stupidest things around.

    Dah.....

"He went on two legs, wore clothes and was a human being, but nevertheless he was in reality a wolf of the Steppes. He had learned a good deal . . . and was a fairly clever fellow. What he had not learned, however, was this: to find contentment in himself and his own life. The cause of this apparently was that at the bottom of his heart he knew all the time (or thought he knew) that he was in reality not a man, but a wolf of the Steppes."

Branding can be done without heat by using extreme cold - I think they use liquid nitrogen.

Actually, tattooing IS a cult thing. It started as a way to separate a particular individual from "the herd" by ornamentation of the body. Only those who were inclined that way had it done. That is still the defining reason for getting a tattoo. which makes it a "cult" thing.

Tattoos were also used to indicate BG's in some societies. Again a "cult thing" because it was not universally recognized by all societies/civilizations. It was only used in those societies which believed in the separation and particular identification of individuals from "normal" society members.

Then there are the Maori who use tribal tattoos to indicate status. Again, a "cult thing" (cult being short for "culture" or "cultural.")

So, certainly tattoos are a "cult" thing. The fact that having a tattoo transcends social standing these days doesn't change the fact that the people who have them ALL believe in the same standards regarding the human body.

BTW the same can be said for piercings. In some societies, piercing the ears is disgusting while piercing the nose or lips is perfectly fine and in other circles ANY piercing is not to be done. This is the epitome of "cult." You either believe in the underlying body mod or you don't. And non-believers are always "outside" the group.

Branding is suppose to burn. Should be done every spring, along with ear marking and castration.

Tattoo ... or cattle brand. Tattoo ... cattle brand. Hm. Gee, I don't know. It's a toss-up. One has the clean lines. The other has the roasty-toasty smell. Oh, what to do ...
