Attn Urban Cowboys: Walking On Concrete in Boots?
Alright,
I have an *awesome* pair of Lucchese cowboy boots which I absolutely love to wear. My only problem is that I can't walk in them without making a "KLUNK, KLUNK, KLUNK" sound on concrete or tile floors, especially if I'm wearing a backpack or something that weighs me down. This draws all kinds of unwanted stares and jokes, unlike if I was wearing my dead-quiet Chucks or Purcells (I don't drag my feet, so that's not the problem). I realize that cowboy boots were not meant for more walking than the 25 paces from the hitchin' post to the end of the bar, but do you guys who do wear them day-in/day-out have any advice for making them work in urban environments?

You might resole them... if you are open to that idea.

I like the clunk sound...

As long as you're not swimming with concrete boots, its all good.
I think that is part of the draw to cowboy boots, the whole clunk thing goes with 'em.

When I gave up building planes, and applied to sell cars, they told me two things. We work a lot of hours, and no one has made it wearing those boots. Lucchese ostrich, black or peanut brittle. It broke my heart, but asphalt hates leather soles. Went to smooth rubber soles. Nothing sounds better than boots on a wood floor. It ranks up with a Harley exhaust.

I used to wear out the first set of soles and have them re-soled in rubber. Now you can buy rubber soled cowboy boots from the get go, so that's what I do, except for dress boats.

Get yourself a cowboy style holster, a hat, and some spurs and tell them that you'll clean the mess up that the horse makes when you are done.

Anybody that stares. Call them out onto the street at High Noon for a "shoot out" but, go into the saloon and toss down a shot of rotgut whiskey before you go out there.
Also make sure that you have yer buryin' money rolled up tight and stuck inside the empty cylinder of your shootin' iron.
Actually I love western boots but, can't wear them anymore since I tore my Achilles Tendon years ago.
I have some really nice pairs of boots gathering dust.

I wouldn't worry about it. My wife doesn't worry about it. She wears heeled shoes on hard floors and makes a terrible racket.

Ebay could be your friend. I've bought several pairs of Ariat on Ebay. Save big buckaroos.

Wear what you want to thats comfortable. Personally I get a lot more odd stares then you do, then again wearing Legweights all day does that.
I know not what this "overkill" means.
