I have an ex- sister - law... that has totalled cars, gotten arrested on DWI's, been found with her car wrecked into a telephone pole and sleeping it off. I mean , the list goes on and on and on for 30 yrs.

I've got a (now ex) in-law like that. The past 5yrs has gotten worse. I truly hope he either augers in, or gets jailed and re-routed, else he is likely to get innocents killed. Though, it has gotten exceedingly expensive for him. It cost him a couple of cars, many $thousands in fines and legal fees, a divorce. So far, his little escapades have been one-car affairs in which he's been found to be studying Isaac Newton while driving, specifically focusing on trajectories into trees. I fear others won't be so lucky, if he keeps it up. I'm glad I live elsewhere.

We used to have a Judge that would sentence young people with DUI's to spend several supervised weekends in the ER of the county hospital. It was a wake-up call for most of them that I doubt that they ever forget.

Julie is your niece's BFF. BFF's influence each other. Apparently your niece is not influencing Julie, so it may very well be the other way around.

Hopefully his niece will learn from Julie's mistakes. From the OP, I would say she has. It's sad to say, but I'm glad my friends made the stupid mistakes before I did.
