    CombatCarry Gallery

I'm not happy about it, but the gallery product we had, before the upgrade caused it to become inaccessible, is down for the count. They will probably eventually have an upgrade available, but for now we are out of luck. Rather than wait months for that to happen, I am in the process of installing a replacement product, Coppermine, that will hopefully be even better than the old one. Since it is stand-alone (not physically connected to the vBulletin script, it should not break when we have to upgrade the forum script.

I'm sorry about any inconvenience caused by all of this, but it could not be avoided. Since the directory structure where the old photos reside is preserved, photos linked to posts in the past should not break as a result of all of this change.

I'll let you know here when the new product is installation and configuration is complete....

Randy - pity you have had the heaqache at all and now have to finmd alternatives. Good tho if path stays as before.

Unfortunately, I can't, Chris. If I use the same path I wind up clobbering the old vBGallery product. I am going to leave the graphics uploaded to the old gallery where they are so we don't have broken picture links all over the site. If possible, I will also import the old pictures into the new product so they will still be available. Though that costs us about 150mb in storage space, I can't stand the idea of broken links thoughout the forum....

    Ahh - I get you - I hadn't thought that thru properly.

But yes - intact working links is good - which was probably what I was really meaning! If only we could persuade folks to keep pic file sizes well under 100k, the storage needed would not be as large.

One of the features in Coppermine allows you to automatically re-size large photos without having to do it yourself. That will do a good thing.

I am sorting through over 200 directories of photos manually after having downloaded them all from the server to my PC. It will take a couple of days to get the gallery up, I'm thinking....

Due to periodic requests we get for ''how to'' re pics - I am planning a page or two to put on one of my servers - same style as the holster links so - looking to have the feel of CC.

I'll wait tho until we have gallery function again and then try and put something together so folks can check it out when needed.

While it is a lot of work for you, I'd dare say it's not much of an inconvenience for the rest of us. I, for one, am happy to have this place and will live with such minor things and will still be thankful for what we've got here.

    Thanks for the update.
