    crashing IE

Anybody else have a problem with this? When I click on the [more] smilies and the window opens, my IE crashes. If I use the smilies on the right everything is fine. Usually the animation flashes and then IE crashes. I can sometime get away with picking the smilie quick anf then closing the pop up window and hit "submit new thread". If I take too long every thig dies.

Not the end of the world but weird and somewhat anoying.

This has been happening for a while and Bumper could not find the problem - partly I think because it could be very time consuming and, time is in short supply.

Whether it is code and/or a particular animated GIF is hard to tell but - IE seems the worst affected.

    Thanks Guys

Like I said not a huge deal but sometimes I forget and go to use a smilie AFTER writing a long post. I've got to remeber to write in word and cut and paste!

Yup, that problem has been going on for a long time. I have gone through every smilie several times and can't seem to find the that is corrupt. The only way I know to fix it is to dump all of the smilies and then add them back a few at a time until I find the one that causes us to spaz out. But since the names of many of them have been changed after installation (to be easier to remember) there's not much chance of avoiding broken smiley graphics all over the forum....

Could the problem be with IE itself?

I use Firefox and I have never had this problem. I do not use IE for just this kind of thing and for so many other problems that I have encountered with it.

    Just a thought...

It doesn't happen to me except in IE, so yeah, I would say it's related to IE in some way. I expect that it has something to do with Java, but have not been able to find an answer for it....

Microsoft has always made IE intentionally non-standards-compliant. With a majority market share, they could cause extra expense for their competition, since many website designers only designed with IE in mind. The other browser makers would have to make theirs compatible with the quirks of IE. These days, though, I don't think they have as much market share as they used to. Perhaps they'll get with the standards soon.

I normally use Firefox, too, but let me try something...

Looks like if you update to IE 7, "More Smileys" works fine...
