    Database Error gremlins back again

This morning I have gotten a Database error and the sight in general has been maddeningly slow to post to threads or send private messages. upwards of a minute for anything to actually post after hitting submit.

Not griping, just updating Bumper on what we are experiencing.

Bumper is back soon from a spell away - and I doubt will be too pleased

Indeed, maddenly slow is a good description Mike!

Yeah, sorry guys, I've been gone and came back to an email box full of database errors. I am running a maintenance right now to see if it will help any at all, although it hasn't helped alot in the past. These are generally growing pains we are experiencing....

No need to be sorry Bumper.

We just wanted to be sure you were aware that the problem was back. I remember you said you appreciated members telling you about any problems we experienced.

Thanks again for the hard work.

Might I suggest that we cull the members list of dead accounts?
There are many user accounts that are more than a month old and have never posted, these could be duplicate accounts or people who joined in error.

When I encounter obvious duplicates I do delete them. I also occasionally run a script that gives me names of people that failed to confirm their account and people that have no posts and haven't visited the site for quite a while. They get deleted as well. But we, like every other forum, have a very number of lurkers that visit fairly often but simply never post, which is fine. The size of the member database is minimal considering the size of the forums and posts database. We have just outgrown our host, I believe.....

I was afraid of that Bumper. The site is a victim of its own success.

Well, my offer still stands. Any way you decide to raise the funds for a dedicated server, if that is what you want to do, I will participate any way I can. A raffle, auction type of thing, paid upper tier membership, donations, whatever. Just let us know. I am sure I am not alone in this, there are many many members on here who would be willing to support the site funding wise.

It's the best darn CCW site on the net and I want to see it get better and better. I'll do what I can to help things towards that goal.

Thanks, Mike, I very well may have to resort to one or more ways to raise the necessary funds to move us to a dedicated server. The rotten performance does not seem to be improving. It's very frustrating....

    Donations

    Bumper,

I think you should consider setting up an easy way to give donations through paypal. The donors could be rewarded with a special title, like "Contributing Member". There is a similar system in place on czshooters.com. See http://www.czshooters.com/modules.ph...ewtopic&t=1623

My guess is that there are a lot of us who would be willing to cough up $10 or $20 to help the site. Anyway best of luck in working toward a better hosting environment.

Cool I am a new member and.....

I would be willing to make a contribution of somekind to help out for an upgrade. You might be pleasantly surprised at the available resources, if the method of payment was made simple.

Thanks for the link, I have been looking through some of the other forums to see how they handle it. Many have similar configurations as CZShooters....
