    it's your forum

found this forum by following a link posted on another forum. As long as the "tone" doesn't change, do what you think is best - after all, you're the one doing all the work
That said, have your DNS provider route all the combatcarry.com traffic to the new name for a while.

So I wimped out and voted no preference. Because I really don't care, both work and have good arguments for them. DefensiveCarry does sound less "threatening" to the uninitiated and probably fits the purpose of the board better. I don't really care what it's named as long as the same folks are around, the focus stays the same and someone makes sure I have a link I'll be fine!

Defensive carry sounds a little more politically correct. Like most have said if the content stays at the high level we have come to expect Who cares about the name. So change away

As Rhett said in Gone with the Wind: "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a d@mn" what you call it. Just keep the content the same. I have gained enormous amount of knowledge this site and hope to gain more in the future. I will keep coming no matter what it is called.

I dislike the idea of changing to defensivecarry.com. To me it appears to be extending a hand to political correctness, and that is a bad idea. You were correct in your initial line of thinking that using your weapon in self defense is combat. That is something that too many peope with a gun strapped to their hip do not understand. When you clear leather, the word defense really dosn't apply any longer. You are in mortal combat. There will be one winner and that person will often be the one with aggressivness and speed of action. Once you've taken the leap to defending yourself you are in fact on the offensive. Thus, I believe CombatCarry is the most fitting of descriptions.

Of course, I will still be here no matter what the name is. I value the opinions and thoughts of several of the members of this forum. But, I will always remember that "good old days" when the name of the site was more accurate and didn't attempt to hide the fact that what we do can turn very dirty, very quickly.

I think it's important to clarify the fact that Bumper did not open a public poll for a "name change vote" because he felt any sort of political correctness pressure to kneel down to "PC" ~
He did not have/feel any sort of obligation to Tame The Name.

I believe that he has actually owned both domain names for an equal length of time.

If my memory serves me correctly he only initially selected "Combat" over "Defensive" because the "CC" (Double Cs) rolled off the tongue a bit smoother and the name had a bit of a "ring" to it.

I could be wrong about that one part but, I know I'm correct regarding the fact he does not feel compelled to change the forum name because he abhors the word "Combat" or he thinks that having the word "Combat" in the forum name will offend the sensibilities of any anti-gunner lefty liberal grandmothers.

QK is right, although the only reason the site wasn't originally named defensivecarry was that I had already installed and opened up the site on combatcarry. The defensivecarry lightbulb came on a few days later, but too late. I was lazy and didn't want to immediately move it again.

Again, there is absolutely no political correctness involved in the decision, regardless of what it may seem to some. In fact, the defiance of PC would be the one reason I would consider leaving the name as it is. But, I think it's time to change the name to better represent what we are. Thanks, all, for your thoughts and input on it....

like i said. rolls off the tongue. sorry, had to say it. i thought it had ring to it too and i like it. i found the site by accident and i don't even remember how or why, but the name didn't mean anything good or bad (PC) to me it just had grabbed me and my curiosity the way the content first came off.
    What's this button do?

I will redirect traffic from any CombatCarry to the new domain automatically. The favicon will remain the same so you can re-bookmark or just edit the URL in your favorites.....
