Site upgrade update: Anyone else notice the site is running slow?
I have noticed the last week or two that DC is running slow for me. Any other site on the internet is loading fast, just as fast as usual, but DC seems to be taking a long time to load pages and to respond when I click on post reply or I click on a thread I want to read.
Anyone else having this problem?

Yes, there was a post a few weeks ago about this, but I believe it is closed now.
It seems Bumper was working on getting the server upgraded due to the larger amount of traffic.

It has it's times for me. Everything is slow including the PM system. Last I knew, they were looking into it. Numerous members had offered to provide extra support if an upgrade was necessary. I'm sure the admins are pinpointing the areas in need.

Yes. Trouble seems to be in the evenings during what must be peak traffic hours.

Yes, especially in the evenings EST, when lots of people are on. I just try to stay off the forum at those times, but it's so hard because this is such a great place to be!

Yes, it's been frustratingly slow at times and at other times just real slow.

Tonight has been especially slow taking up to a minute per screen load.

Yep, super-duper slow. I think I one-armed man with no fingers could produce a handgun and empty the magazine before the page was fully loaded after clicking it's corresponding icon in my "favorites" folder...

Actually, I need to get back to Mark about the upgrade quotes. He was supposed to have had them together late last week. The problem is, indeed, the amount of traffic we are experiencing. Looking at the stats, it actually sped up a bit early last week.
We also have an upgrade coming in a week or so that has some minor performance improvements. For that I will have to take the forum down for a few hours late at night....

I just received the upgrade options from Mark at Tranquil Host (one of the best hosts out there) and I gave the "go-ahead" for a significant upgrade to our horsepower. We are currently on a Dual-Core Opteron server, 1.8GHz with 2GB of RAM. Our bottleneck has been with the CPU.
We will be upgrading to a new 2.0GHz Quad-core Xeon server, which are much more efficient than older ones at the same clock-rate. Since we're still doing good on disk space, Mark will put our existing drives in the new server allowing us to get back up and running with an estimated downtime of less than an hour.
Total cost is under $400/year so I think we are good on the budget without our members making extra donations, although I do VERY MUCH appreciate the offers. All of you and the sponsors have helped us keep enough funds in the bank to cover these kinds of upgrades to the forum. If you really want to help, buy something for yourself through one of our sponsors and tell them you saw their banner here....
You guys are great!
