Duplicate accounts
I am starting to show a lot of duplicate accounts again. If you have created a second account for some reason you need to let me know before I delete them.
Any duplicate accounts where there is activity on both accounts will eventually get a PM from me wanting to know the reason. If you do not respond to the PM, one or both accounts will be banned.
If one of the accounts have no activity and one does, the one with no activity will be deleted.
If neither have activity the newest account will be deleted.
Fess up or live with the consequences.....

I am not a Dupe!
Seriously though... I surf mostly from work (at a 20k+ employer) so please contact me if it looks like there's more than one of me based on IP.

What would be the reason for a second account (good or bad)?
New one on me...

To put it bluntly, some folks like to use an "alter ego" to basically speak their mind and not care how they make people feel. They use their "dark side" to rant about stuff and contradict people and argue, etc. No one except moderators would be able to tell who was actually speaking if it was an "alter ego".
Sometimes, I have found certain individuals that would do this. Not being very careful, they tend to say certain phrases and use certain words that aren't common to everyone. Sort of "tag lines".
As far as the good, I assume someone could talk up their products if they were a commercial entity, etc.

I kind of have two accounts. Often I find post interesting that I think my wife may interested in too. She doesn't post but she does look.
Rolyat64 is her account. Now if I could get her interested in the gun part of this business.

I think that SelfDefense guy is one of the most cogent and brilliant posters here and I agree with everything he writes.

Jarhead and QKShooter have already stated the most common reasons, but we also have people that have a "backup" in case one gets banned. As Jarhead said, they can use one to "speak their mind" and the other if they go too far and get banned. Strange, but true.
For those of you that have a second account for spouse, one of the kids, etc. just let us know about it and, like rolyat63 above, I will quite wondering what is up with the second account.
So you understand the scale of the problem, I removed over 1000 accounts almost a year ago (duplicates and those never confirmed) and today we have about 250 duplicates and over 350 that never confirmed. While our performance is pretty good, these accounts are an unnecessary load on us storage-wise.....

For me, I sent a message stating I wanted to change my name because I noticed nobody really uses their real name. I then surmised that maybe I shouldn't for some reason for which I'm not aware. I then read that I couldn't change my name. I thought about doing another account and then decided heck I'm not going to say anything hear that I wouldn't say anywhere else. Can anybody give me a reason why they don't use their names?

Anyone who once was a regular to packing.org (now defunct) would understand how duplicate accounts can destroy a site. I completely understand Bumper's worries and hope this site doesn't fall into that category.

I don't want my neighbors to know I'm armed.
I don't want my daughter's friends to know I'm armed.
I don't want any prospective burglars to know I have guns in the house.
I don't want some employers to know I participate in concealed carry.
I could go on and on, but these are some of the reasons that came to mind immediately.

You mean Jerry Donlan is your real name? Who would have thunk?
