Important: New Open Carry Forum - Please read

This new forum is being established in response to those of you that want a place to discuss open carry, in those States that legally allow it, without leaving this forum.

This is, as most of you know, a deviation of our previous policy of discouraging open carry threads. The policy was put in place several years ago when there seemed to be a confrontational tone to many of those threads. Like everything, though, things change in time, including DefensiveCarry.

While our policy has been changed and we now encourage the posting of threads regarding open carry, we will continue enforcing our rules regarding civility within the forum. This forum will not allow the endless debate of "us vs them". We are all gun owners that believe in the right to carry, either openly or concealed and it's time that we start understanding that we are all on the same side. We are all responsible gun owners that follow the law whether we agree with them or not.

In establishing this new forum, I am asking our members to help "self-police" it by using the report feature should you see a thread heating up. If the decision to include open carry in our topics turn into a disaster, this forum will be removed and we will go back to the way things previous to this change.

    As always, enjoy the forum!

I will check it out to see what people in other parts of the country are saying. In NY, open carry is illegal, so I doubt I will be posting, but I do look forward to learning from other members.

Wow, Bumper, first a political forum and now an open carry forum. I hope you are considering giving your staff a raise.

Just curious, since you are being so magnanimous lately, are you going to provide amnesty to those banned from previous open carry controversies?

All of those that have been banned, that I can recall, were banned not so much for posting open carry threads but because they came out swinging when they were asked to stop. I will, though, after research leave that option open. If they just picked up their toys because we did not allow open carry, without making a stink about it, I will consider it. That being said, were I to "unban" someone and they were to come back and make a smelly re-entry, they would be back out the door.

In our history, I have only lifted a ban on one person and that person, still very active today, has been a good member....

No one's ever been banned just because of an OC "controversy"

Any member who has had their ticket punched re: OC has either been for one of three reasons.

1: They didn't want to stay here and requested their membership to be canceled.

2: They exhibited piss poor attitude/judgment once they were told that we don't do OC topics here.

    3: A combination of 1 and 2.

As a regular open carry type, I wanted to send a great bit THANK YOU to you Bumper!!

I am a member of OC.org but to be honest, it is not even close in quality to this fine site. I LOVE the fact that there is now an open carry forum here on Defensive Carry!

    Thanks again!!

You're welcome, Mike. And, for the record, your email was the one that pushed me over the edge. Pat yourself on the back....

I think it's a wonderful idea. I was an open carrier for many years before the CCW laws came along. While I seldom open carry any longer, still think there's a place for discussion. I'll be watching for the constitutionalists and wackos to raise their ulgy heads.

Thanks for adding the OC Forum Bumper.

This is my favorite carry site, and I've been waiting for a time when I could discuss OC here

I thought I already made a post on this, guess not. When I first joined this forum, about a week ago, I made a OC post without realizing it was a can of worms.

So Bumper, Thank you for opening up a new forum. OC and Defensive carry go hand in hand. This forum is pretty high quality compared to other sites both gun and non gun sites

I'm not a fan of OC, but I'm happy that all the OC'ers can come out of the closet now with a forum all their own.

i'm pleasantly surprised by, and appreciate, the new forum. open carry is becoming a thing in PA, and is widely practiced in other states lik AZ, VT, and VA. i just hope people can keep things civil; i've already seen too much of the OC v. CC debate, and it gets old, real fast.

    Thank you, Bumper.

While I have my own views on CC/OC (when and where), I think it's healthy and worthwhile for a discussion forum to exist where folks can discuss issues related to what is a normal and practicable carry option for many folks. I, too, think defensive carrying encompasses the two modes: CC, OC. So long as people don't lose their heads and keep things respectful (as with any other discussion), things should be fine.
