    How About DC.com for Mobile?

Just a thought, Bumper, when you have nothing to do and are looking for a lot of work, it would be neat if I could post to DC.com from my Blackberry. I do get the site on my PDA, but of course, the formatting is not the easiest to navigate.

Being out in the field a lot, it would give me a chance to keep up with the flow!

(Please don't take this too seriously, it was just a daydream. It's just I feel lost without checking the site every few minutes )

Well, if we get enough people to do this, maybe we'll start a movement. Better get the sub-domain ready now: mobile.defensivecarry.com

Here's an earlier thread that covers the problems with making a mobile version. I will check again, but I believe they still apply....

I don't see what your issues are...

DC is quite mobile, I was sufing it from the airport just not too long ago...

From my LAPTOP! Not technically advanced enough for a PDA....

    Works fine on an iPhone.

Blame it on Sixto - now that is a viable plan.

Yes, it works on my Blackberry, it's just not visually friendly and easy to navigate.

+1 for mobile. The majority of my time on DC.com is through my phone(I lurk a lot). In fact, this post is from my cell. I can navigate and post relatively easy, the pages just take a short while to load. I'm on a Sprint Mogul if it makes a difference.

I think we may need to start a support group for this

A mobile version would be great.

I use a Windows Mobile powered Smart Phone, and the site is a bit tricky to utilize, but the main thing is load time.

I think a big thing to focus on for mobile users would be to give the option of a text only site. (This would be a nice option for those of us on slower networks.)

Or perhaps an option list could be added to the user CP to preset the desired features to be viewed on the mobile site. (full site or text only, show avatars or not, wide or narrow page layout, ect...)

Just a thought. (And a lot of work if such options were to be put in place.)

and maybe a mirror site without "gun", "carry", "weapon" type name for restricted networks, like at the hospital or airport.

On a side note: I ALWAYS buy a gun mag at the airport just because I can.

Making the site mobile is actually pretty easy. There is a code that can be added to the site that if Im not mistaken is a server side include which when you go tot he site on a mobile phone the site determines this and formats accordingly.

Dont ask how I know this. A google search or a quick note to the sites host could take care of it.

FWIW, Im a mobile junkie. The Moto Qc is an addiction. Dont know how I ever lived without it. I do everything on it and even bill my customers using the phone for paperless invoicing.
