You might want to make sure in the car is legal.

Our VA is all fed property and the entire "campus" is illegal...including the parking lots.

You are 100% correct, my wife works at VA Biloxi and I have to make sure no guns in car before going to pick her up at work. If the OP is at a VA Hospital/Campus The gun in the car is just as illegal as on his hip.

When you park on a city street you are not parking on VA property. That would seems to go without saying. Guess not.

Yeah, taking the firearm into the facility is a BAD idea. 18USC922 and all...I think that even taking the ammo in there is a no no.

If I recall, the Post Office, and Military Bases are the only places where you cannot have a firearm in your vehicle. The Federal Buildings Law only applies to the INSIDE of a building where federal employees perform their duties.

Perhaps you should visit a VA campus and read the signs posted and the US Code they refer too.

I've read all of 18 USC 922 multiple times and I don't see any prohibition on firearms in Federal facilities in 18 USC 922.

Only if he passes a sign that states it is illegal.
