Umm, I didn't. I asked a question based directly on what was written by the other poster.

Ahh, ok. So that's why he qualified his position first by mentioning that he's an atheist, right? Because obviously, as an atheist, he embraces logic and reason, whereas those who aren't clearly can not.

LoL, that's what I got from it also.

The way he presented his opinion pretty much has thrown this topic for a whirl.

My wife and I went to DETROIT(!) this weeekend with a cousin and her husband.

I have shared with her that I have a CC, she asked if I had my firearm, I stated no, etc (illegal to carry in MI at the event I was going to and the casino we were going to go to after).

She asked how I felt about students that wanted to carry on campus at OU. I said while I had some reservations, I realised they were emotion based, because a criminal or nut who wanted to go on a shooting spree was going to do whatever they wanted. It was far more likely unarmed people woud be injured by someone who does not care about carry laws, than someone who carries losing their marbles and draw.

She refused to get it. When it is an emotional issue for the person, many times only being in that situation will break the emotional barrier. Then they get it.

Sounds like she needs some treatment to overcome that irrational fear!

We need to move this away from a religious discussion and get it back on topic or the thread will be closed....

I'm thinking they're afraid of carry in general, open or concealed. The "logic" - if you can call it that - is simply what we all know: fear of guns in general, and the idea (often promoted by law enforcement officials) that only "trained" personnel like LEOs can responsibly handle guns. We are far removed from the times when every family had guns. Our complacency has led to this.

well..its a out of sight out of mind kinda thing.

when i first saw someone open carrying, it kinda made me worry. not because its a gun with a gun, but its a guy i dont know with a gun. he/she can have a metal problem and just start getting violent.

just dont know what they plan on doing.

and of course if a bad guy/gal hides his/her gun its even more dangerous. but. we wont know if they realy are a BG till he or she pulls their gun.

i'm not sure how she will react to all those scary people with guns working in the gun store where they sell them, should be interesting
How will she call the Police, if they break in and are holding her, raping her, or holding her at gun point, with a knife, etc. ???

That's the part that many , never consider.

I was taken aback by this. Somehow you equate atheism with enlightenment. Remember, it was once a "fact" that the Earth was flat, and a "fact" that the Earth was the center of the universe.

I've been debating the irrationale fear of guns and law abiding responsible gun owners on a columnist's blog for weeks at The Roanoke Times. Some people, you just can't reach. Anyone wanting to join in, please google it and jump in the debate. Also some articles posted in the news: good, bad, and ugly thread.

When you engage in a battle of intelligence with an unarmed person, they will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I did not belive that someone could genuinely be worried about someone conducting their business. But i was talking to my friend, and she expressed that she would be genuinely worried to the point of leaving where she was because someone was peacefully carrying a sidearm on their hip, then again i have a friend who fears escalators so i guess i should not be surprised anymore

.... its a fact that during a certain dark age society pretty much stopped advanced. its also a "fact" that far today right-wing religious groups all over the world support a regressive, oppressed society and generally support genocide (whether they openly admit it or not) of those who don't support their point of view.
