So I was open carrying at the grocery store

My wife and I stopped at the grocery store a couple of days ago. I was open carrying, like I pretty much always do these days. As I walked around the store I noticed, once again, that no one seemed to give a hoot. No one screamed. No one stopped me and told me I shouldn't do that, or asked me why I did it. Nobody even took their kids and left their carts in the aisles and fled the store in panic. I do recall a couple of people saying "Hi" to me, and one lady asked me if I could reach something on the top shelf for her.

When we got to the checkout, there was an Orange County (Va.) deputy in the next line. She didn't ask me about the gun. She didn't handcuff me. She didn't call for backup or order me to "assume the position." As a matter of fact she and my wife got into a conversation about the deputy's Sig.

The checkout lady said "Good afternoon", and "That'll be $47.67. Credit, debit or cash?"

It was actually somewhat boring. I don't why I bought it up.

This is EXACTLY the way it should be...just as natural as one having a wallet or watch...

How did you pay? Credit, debit or cash?

I'm glad you had a 'boring day' just as it should be regarding OC (and CC).

    Stay safe.

Sounds like a normal OC day in Virginia (unless your in NoVA or the VB area). No one seems to care, even the police. Almost daily when I stop for coffee on my way to work at WAWA I'm surrounded by police. Their biggest concern is whether they are going to drink their coffee with cream or black. I've never had one even mention the gun OC'd on my hip.

The Sheriffs Dept. in Orange Co. is very gun friendly. In fact, they offer a free CC basic gun safety class about twice a year.

Glad to hear you had a good OC experience.

I will be moving to VA at the end of summer and I am looking forward to OCing. Not that I am looking to show off my gun I just want to see how it feels.
A good friend will come bail you out of jail...But a true friend will be sitting next to you saying "Damn we screwed up".

I have them all the time Rob. This was only notable because of the deputy standing there. I see a lot of "I open carried today" stories here, but it's pretty routine for me.

Always nice to read the good experiences, even when they are "routine".

Reminds me of the time I OC'ed into a small country store in Socorro, NM. Both female clerks ooohed and aaahed, asked questions about make, caliber, cost, etc. I made my purchase and left.

    Nice..

I do have a question. Do you OC with a CC holster or does your OC holster have some sort of lock or strap on it?

Why do you say "(unless your in NoVA or the VB area)"?

I have family in VB and I OC frequently when there. No issues that I have ran into.

This is why I love Virginia! (Richmond area)

I OC pretty much everywhere, and even my BANK, and never have a problem.

Now having said that, I wear nice clothes in a professional manner, and have a "marine regs" haircut. But, it shouldn't matter how one dresses or their appearance here in good ol' Virginia!

I'm seeing more and more locals carrying, which is good, and it's working on the state's crime rate, I'd say.

I use the same holster for OC I do for CC, an open top pancake. I might switch back and forth between OC and CC a half dozen times a day. Just depends mostly on how lazy I am and where I am.
