Nice table. We will attending out first gun show in a couple of weeks. It will certainly be a learning experiance. Any advice to a young group (LOCAL was formed about a year ago and we havn't incorporated yet or done much in the way of litter pickups or such things but we want to get ourselves out there with this gunshow) so that we can get the best use of our table and time?
does anyone know how i can find out or does anyone know if South East VA will be having any gun/knife shows comming up soon??
Definitely have at least 2 people at the booth, at your busiest times you'll wish you had more just to catch your breath. Also you want someone to be manning the booth if one person wants to go eat or take a bathroom break.
I highly recommend business cards and a printout summary of your open carry laws. Like this: http://www.alabamaopencarry.com/docs/tri-fold.pdf
You can get cheap business cards made at vistaprint.com. Also if you have a petition going, this is an awesome way to get signatures. We got over 300 signatures on paper as well as online. We also had a laptop setup so people could sign the petition or see the website. This proved to be a handy tool, especially if we needed to look up a law or document.
Don't be afraid to stop people as they walk by, if you just sit there and depend on people to stop on their own, you're gonna be disappointed. Just remember most people are there because they love firearms and their 2nd Amendment rights. So you already have the common ground with them. One thing we did on the second day was put up a simple hand written sign that said "Sign our petition for your 2nd Amendment rights" Alot of people stopped just for that. Even without a petition, I'd put up something like "Protect your 2nd Amendment rights here!" or something similar.
Then just try an put it all together in a professional presentation. A banner helps you stand out, a nice table cover(I got ours for 4 bucks!), most importantly KNOW the laws. People are gonna ask all sorts of stuff, the more your prepared to answer the better. Don't be confrontational with those who disagree with open carry, be professional, and tell them you understand and everyone has that freedom of choice to carry how they desire. We talked to everyone, men, women, grandparents, kids, Law Enforcement, and the wackos. So just be prepared :)
Hope this helps! Carry On! -Jason
