I read in threads past and I am getting confussed, some people say OC you need to be visible 360" some say your gun CAN NOT BE LOADED while OC :scruntiny: can someone clear this up for me? I saw this http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Firearms_StateLaws.shtm and this
http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-287.4 the way this reads is that you can carry a handgun on you BUT NOT over 20 rounds in magazine.
I talked to a lawyer and they said OC was legal, we are a preempit state?(spelling) I am 20 so I can OC legaly?

I heard the VBeach area is not a good place to OC? cops do not know laws?? I heard carry tape recorder. Any problems out this way? Can you keep it loaded? one in the chamber.

You need to be VERY well versed in the law to OC...you need to know the law since many cops don't seem to. Read up your state laws, visit handgunlaw.us, and proceed with caution.

If you do decide to OC, be a VERY good representative of the gun carrying community.

You are correct on the magazine limit when carrying in VA. The open carrying unloaded is a California thing. Does not apply to VA. As youngda9 said, read the laws of Virginia, so your well versed on them. Some LEO and some communities try to push unenforceable policies and laws. By knowing the laws yourself, you can sometime stop problems before they arise.

Welcome to the forum.

Just wanted to double check, had laywer go over it, I read the laws and nothing prohibts it. The law reads WHAT YOU CAN'T DO. I have talked to few others around my age(20) and they say they OC when they where 18. They recommend tape recorder and a little card that shows the laws/codes

Thanks guys.
