5am OC Parking Lot LEO Encounter

I normally CC but when I work all night I often tuck my shirt/jacket behind my Supertuck but cover back up when I leave. I had updated my Droid Skyview program earlier and after locking up I was checking it out as I had never really used it. So, I'm standing outside by my truck, waving a small black object at the sky in a deserted parking lot in front of a strip mall at 5am in the freezing cold. A car starts approaching from the other end headed straight for me. I can see pretty quickly that its a local LEO. So, I say good morning when he gets close enough as his window is down, and he is of course looking at me trying to figure out if I'm up to no good.

So, he says, "Just wondering what you're doing out here." Realizing how odd it looks, I introduced myself and told him it was my store we were in front of and I was leaving for the night/morning. He noticeably relaxed as we began talking. He had been at the section 8 housing complex behind my store most of the night on domestic calls.

So we chit chat a little more and got to gripe to each other about the local problems recently and he was pleasant to talk to, just like most of the other patrol officers have been. As he prepared to roll out again he said, "Well, I guess our night didn't go too bad, neither one of us had to shoot anyone. Drive safe." Yep, I had forgotten to cover up. I guess I couldn't ask for a much better encounter. I've been thinking about getting an OWB rig for a while now and after this encounter, I'm feeling better about it.

    Bet it wasn't Gwynn County.

Your response should have been, "Yup, as long as we don't have to count those two guys that tried to rob me earlier....Great night!"

tkruf - Richmond. Most of the patrol officers in this area have been pretty nice. We had a shady one for a couple years in the rotation that really creeped me out. I haven't seen him in a while though. (I'm still trying to get my hands on a Ruger .357 like yours)
