This happened about 12 miles from where I live. I don't think it's wise in this somewhat fragile time (after the Tucson incident). However, he did not break the law, or use common sense.

On a side note: Get a real sling for your gun man. That's just embarrassing carrying it like that.

One of the malls near me is posted prohibiting the posession of concealed handguns. There is no law in Texas that would prohibit me from walking through the mall with a long gun. If I really wanted to yank managements chain I could just grab one of my AR's and go shopping. Probably take the carbine. It has more of those evil things that Chuck Schumer hates so much.
Don't hold your breath waiting for me to do it though.

Every year here in Michigan, the local KKK holds a rally at the State Capitol. They have a right to do it but it doesn't make me think they are any less idiotic just because they have the right. A coupe of times, some of the KKK members were arrested for DC when they got a but up close and personal. That's OK with me too.

Frankly, I'm glad that the guy got harassed. Some day, I may feel the need to carry open and the LAST thing I want is some yahoo acting like and idiot inciting middle-of-the-road people to vote for no-open carry.

Common since apparently not; and let me say I agree with the majority here in viewing the posts, and even though I too live in an open carry state I do not open carry ever but I say anyone one who does is fine by me it is their choice and it is legal; however, If he was making a point (one I would not make) then I must agree with him. And the officer (s) should know better….. IE it is an open carry state, the officer said “not for an assault rifle” well first of all open carry does indeed extend to Rifles there and secondly despite the plastic and junk he had a rifle not an assault rifle………. Then at the end of the last video the second officer was lecturing him on what normal people do I wish the video was a bit longer so I could soak up his words of wisdom on the normal matter at hand. And lastly if he broke no law and complied with every single thing the officer (s) told him to do, as was evident in the video (s) what was disorderly about him??? If you do not want people to open carry rifles do not extend your open carry law to include them, or leave people alone when they do..

    This.

Open carrying a carbine/rifle in the woods or a field where wolves or some other man threat is known to be located, then yes this specific action would pass the 'Reasonable Man' litmus test.

Open carrying a carbine/rifle or shotgun on a private watercraft among open international waterways, then yes this specific action would also pass the 'Reasonable Man' litmus test.

But open carrying specifically a carbine/rifle in a dense population enclosed area/arena such as a shopping mall...Sorry Charlie, that is neither 'Reasonable Man' passable (hence the results!) nor is it even a tactically wise tool choice as related to potential use as was noted by BurgDog above.

If this guy were seriously concerned about his safety as in a _functional_ manner then he would be carrying a can of _stream type_ OC/CS for use as a primary stand-off and threat evasion/escape option, along with his handgun as a secondary and REAL EMERGENCY ONLY means of last resort.

Further he is wearing the longgun using a one point sling, a type of sling designed not for long distance/time frame handler carry but rather for short distance/time frame temporary stowage so as to clear the gun out of the handlers arms & hands while remaining available and at the immediate ready as toward anticipated redeployment.
This guy walking around wearing the gun as so with no threat what so ever to engage in the immediate never mind over the long not short distance he'd be covering while doing so....Was again not acting as 'Reasonable Man'.

He goes on about wanting to inform people that this is lawful in his state, by technicality.
I ask and have to wonder; For why?! Why does he feel a pressing need to inform citizens of this at all never mind to do so in such a manner?

People who behave, think and even talk (look at his body & facial manner as he tells his thoughts and views remarking about 'normal people') like this are doing us no favors....At all.

He is to my eye a damn fool.

How do I know they left because of the Open Carry guys. Because the police pulled them over 5 mins later and when the LEO's found weapons and bags in their car they asked the thugs what the intent was. The Thugs told them they were going to rob the restaurant, but saw guys OC and decided not to.

Also I guess you think that by me who doesn't have a CPL/CHL/CCH I shouldn't carry for self defense? I know my rights/laws, and am very good with all firearms. But by age I can't CC, so OC is the next best thing for me. When I have my CPL yes I will CC and I will OC. Just depends on what I'm doing/wearing that day. Plus the laws are better when I OC with a CPL in my state.

Am I looking for "attention" by OCing? heck no. I'm with in my rights as a Law Abiding Citizen, and want to come home to my family at the end of the day safe. Oh and you are more than welcome to flame me for this but I think OC has more of an advantage when it comes to speed. I can say that I will out draw you 100% of the time.

I did this test. My father a CPL holder and I at the command of a third were to draw our guns and shoot at our targets. While reviewing the video, I not only out drew him But had a good shot off, before he was even up in the shooting position. So our opinion are just that, take them as you will

As for the AR-15 he has his rights, is it a good idea? probably not, it should have been loaded. Because it was not, I know he was looking for attention. If I could know if i was going to be in a bad situation, I would want my shotgun, and a handgun as back up. It is like the quote

"I see you have your handgun, are you boys expecting trouble?"
"No Mrs., if I was I would have brought my shotgun."
I absolutely will not flame you sir, because as you said, you are exercising your rights, OC works for you and you chose to defend your life and that of your loved ones by carrying a weapon. For that, I congratulate and salute you. It's just that in my case, open carry does not work for me. Mind you that I don't live in the U.S. so perhaps it is a cultural thing from my country that would not make it work. For example, if a burglar wants to attack me and sees that I have a weapon...he would shoot me first. Also, I would draw so much attention that people would call the police everywhere I went because they would probably think I will shoot or rob the place. Therefore, I don't want the hassle.

Or it can go like this:
he sees you and says "oh crap that guy has a gun, I'm not messing with him, the people who carry guns mean business and know how to use them, I'm picking an easier target."

It also can go your way, even though there have been no reports of OC being shot first.

P.S. Germany allows CC? I'm impressed can you tell me more about that process? post message me if you wish.

Why do people keep doing stupid things with guns. It makes it harder for the rest of us to keep ours. No wonder people want stricter gun laws with idiots running around.

He was walking around with an automatic weapon? Or an p90s rifle? I'm confused how average people can tell the difference between a p90 and an p90s by just looking at it from a distance? They must know something I don't...

While I agree that it wasn't the smartest thing to do what he did, he broke no law... Yet he could face criminal charges? HOW DARE HE CARRY THAT EVIL BLACK RIFLE NEAR PEOPLE!
There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
