The KY process is awful. There is no reason that the CCW instructor couldn't issue you a certificate at the time you take the class. You'd then take that along with a completed application, a couple of photos, and some fingerprint cards to the sheriff's office. Spend 10 minutes getting finger printed and be on your way. That would start the 90 days about a month sooner than they do now.

For such a gun friendly state they seemed to try and invent the worst possible system for CCW permits.

I agree, the sooner the better. But there was no fingerprinting so far. Maybe they do that when you return to pick up your permit?

I moved to Ky from Chicago in early 2009. In some ways it gives me a different perspective on how things work. In IL and especially in Chicago, things take a long time and are complicated because the system is crammed full of unionized political patronage workers who's goal is not service but to continue the system. In KY, things are a lot more, shall I say, "rural" in nature. I agree that sometimes it is frustrating, but in my encounters with government at all levels here at least the people were friendly and seemed truly helpful. I do not want to say things here are backward, but rather more parochial. And having lived with the alternative, I much prefer it here.

Hello all, I am waiting as well for my CCDW.

Took my packet to the Boone county Sheriff on Oct 12. The state cashed my check on Oct. 17th. So it is getting closer day by day.

I was one of the first in Ky to take the class and get my permit. The whole process took about a month.

I took my class in Sept and got everything done in DEC... I run 5k with a trooper and told me it was only one person doing all the stuff at state level!

I did not have to have any finger prints done.

My notice came in the mail today to pick up my permit! Took the class Sept 15, and will pick the permit on Jan. 19th. The wait seemed to take forever.... But, it is finally here!

When I got my letter from the KSP it said for me to pick up my license a week later but I went to the sheriff's office the day I got the letter and they already had my license.

They probably already have yours too and you can pick it up now.

I assume an indication in the increased number of applications. Congrats!

I believe its sitting at a 14week backlog. As far as I know the lady who runs it from DOCJT (Jane Sexton) is still the only one processing paperwork. I taught a class tonight, and just told the students its gonna be a fairly decent wait time
