Unarmed man attempts to rob EMU student of holstered gun

"A first rate man with a third rate gun is far better than the other way around". The gun is a tool, you are the craftsman that makes it work. There are those who say "if I had to do it, I could" yet they never go out and train to do it. (WETSU)
Well, there's the third time I've heard of this happening. Something for those of us who open carry to weigh and consider.

Strong hand on the gun, keeping it in place and drawing if possible, weak hand pummeling the attacker.

I'll pass on that, but this isn't the first time this has happened.
2010: WI: Milwaukee2011: Richmond VA?police are investigating a robbery in which a man took a handgun from another man who was openly carrying the gun in a holster on his hip, a department spokeswoman said Wednesday.
...
The robber approached the 34-year-old victim and asked for a cigarette, Schwartz said. The victim gave the robber a cigarette, but the robber then pointed a handgun at the victim and took the victim's gun from his holster, she said.
This guy got lucky.Toby Smith Jr. is accused of stealing Blaine Tyler's gun inside a gas station last week and fatally shooting him after Tyler chased Smith inside the store.
Tyler, 48, had a concealed-carry permit, but his handgun was plainly visible that night in his holster, Johnson said.
"The suspects walk in and one immediately reached for Mr. Tyler's gun," Johnson said. Tyler did not draw his weapon.
According to court papers, Smith took Tyler's gun during a struggle and shot Tyler in the chest after the victim chased Smith inside the store. Authorities said they could not confirm that Tyler was killed with his own gun until they get the results of forensics testing. They also are awaiting test results to show whether the gun used to kill Tyler was the one used to shoot Cosby.
I know it happens. Folks get robbed everyday with items that are in the open like purses. I was not trying to be a wise butt. Just hoping it does not turn into a OC vs CC. CC folks have in the past make a big deal that a risk of OCing is someone taking your weapon. Folks that OC are not oblivious to this fact. Hopefully if one chooses to OC then they do a risk assesment and understand the risk.
I'm not against OC, but you had better have some kind of retention holster and training.
"Clearly that's a YOU problem not a ME problem."
The student should have freely given up his gun and bullets...bullets first!:brutal&:
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."

Washington didn't use his freedom of speech to defeat the British, He shot them!

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.
If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics stink.
Many criminals know how to defeat the retention holsters and all it does it buy you time and you need to know what to do next. There are specific ways to defend against an attack forcing the bad guy to let go and you keeping control of the gun in the holster. So like anything else, training, training, training.
