To the secessionists, I don't like the gun laws here or the politicians who make them and say it's for the cops' safety. But know all what you're wishing for.
California contributed the most, $313B, to federal coffers in 2007 (most recent figures conveniently available to me) and is one of only three states that contributed more than $200B and one of only nineteen that contributed to the federal government more per capita than it received.
Virginia, Iowa, Florida, Pennsylvania and Kansas receive more than they contribute.
China and Japan own more than 12% of our debt. There may be hell to pay if the country doesn't get a grip with foreign countries calling in markers and flexing economic muscle to crimp our style.
Whatever you do to keep carry somewhat constitutional in your state, if it's one of the above five or other twenty-seven (including DC) that take more than they give, could you use your influence to cut the fat? Because California is your state's sugar daddy.
Well, that is California's problem isn't it? They seem to think they can be everyone's sugar daddy. Poor people, minorities, elderly, illegals, state workers and teachers pensions, and they just keep spending money they don't have. The problem with socialism is eventually you run out of other people's money.
I laughed when I realized you were trying to hold CA as a model for state support of the country. They may have a large economy, but it is in the tank, and not showing signs of improvement. All of the businesses that can are fleeing, and so are a lot of people.
California's paying a lot of the country's bills but not enough to stem our growing debt at $16B, now. We're going to have to cut spending before we start ceding the state that contributes the most. You have to admit that the rest of the country is no model for fiscal responsibility.
I will absolutely agree with that. And the scary part is that you can see other state governments trying to head the direction of CA's. They may contribute to the federal budget, but their administration of the state budget and resources is abismal.
I do not think they should pull away or be pushed away. I would like to see people wake up. Unfortunatly the only way that will happen for some people is to hit rock bottom, and even then, they might not see it for themselves without help.
He must be in a county with more people or more red tape than I'm in. Mine only took a couple of months to run through the system. And although I applaud Sac. county's reopening of the application process after they were overwhelmed last year, the waiting period must be horrendous.
I pretty much feel the same way. Unless it is the only firearm someone owns for whatever reason, I don't really see a purpose for carrying a long gun in a city. In most of the instances I have seen, those carrying long guns were just cop baiting and acting like morons in general to provoke a response. That said, people should still have the right to carry a long gun if they so choose. The ban is complete BS.
Well that's the problem right there. I don't see a point in carrying a long gun in the city either, (not that I'm against it or would freak out if I saw it either) but they like to wave their magic wand and affect the whole state instead of just making their little cozy city areas. Most people don't realize how many square miles there are in Ca. that openly carrying any firearm wouldn't get a second look at. But just to blanket the whole state with that law goes to show how much those people know outside their concrete and asphalt. Ignorance at its peak.
This is starting to scare me, to be honest... we all know 'trends' start in California and move their way across the US.
Uh...their contributions mean poo if they are $600BILLION in debt, mulitple major municipalities declared bankruptcy multiple years(which means they most likely did NOT pay their debts back), and they have repeatedly asked and received multi-BILLIONS in funds from the feds every year to cover the states fiscal irresponsibility(going back to that 600BILLION debt...).
CA is FAR from any sort of fiscal role model.
Virginia is a "Shall Issue" state. 1 page application, photo copy of drivers license, and copy of internet course completion certificate (20 minutes max). No interviews, finger prints, or mothers maiden name. Virginia, God bless her, treats her citizens as if they are adults and understand the idea of self protection via concealed carry. In Vermont you don't even need a permit to carry a concealed firearm. Absent living in Vermont...Virginia is the best. Oh yeah...did I mention the permit takes about 3 to 5 weeks...oh yeah...the Clerks office at the courthouse will even laminate it for free if you bring it by.
