Great story. I know this was a case of OC but it goes to show you not to be too concerned about printing when CC because it seems these thugs did not even notice he had one in plain sight.

I'm sure glad he wasn't shot by those observant, streetwise criminals.

The fact that he fought back with a firearm doubtless surprised them . New Orleans has an interesting criminal element, no Crips or Bloods, the locals ran them out. The neighborhood is marginal and has a problem, The interesting part of the story is the third one still at large with fear of him getting back at them. Very tribal and it says something about the impunity some of these scum freely do their evil. We've had problems here always, exacerbated by successive city administrations, each more corrupt than the predecessor .

At any rate, someone may take care of the perp , especially if he threatens someone's mama or grandmama. So, we shall see.

When I read "fired it in the direction of the robbers" I had a feeling it'd turn out to be a warning shot and sure enough it was. I wouldn't have been firing a warning shot, but I'm glad it worked out for them. We'll see if one of the two who were caught decide to turn on their pal.

I am sooo tired of hearing about the legal harassment of people trying to defend themselves. There is no common sense and looking at the facts of a shooting without a political or monetary agenda.

His lawyer( sad , ain't it? ) said this not the victim. He may have thought it was better than admitting the victim missed . New Orleans is a strange place. I love it, it is a place that one either loves heart and soul or hates with equal passion. The New Orleans suburbs, in Jefferson and St Tammany for example, have far and away fewer incidents of this type. My particular town is considered the most crime free in the state, yet we share a zip code with one of the ugliest parts of NOLA. We are one of the more gun friendly states and New Orleans is the sad exception proving the rule.

True, may have just been legal spin. A close friend of mine lives in NOLA and echos your sentiments. He says things operate very differently there.

Here we go again with "warning shots." Why can't they say, plain and simple, "he fired two shots and missed with both?"

IMO the only thing that should happen to the "almost" victim is that he should be sent to marksmanship classes.

This entire article shocks me for many reasons and I am glad it turned out the way it did.

    1. Open carry in the Greater New Orleans area is frowned upon by the police as well as the Mayor. In fact, gun ownership in that area is frowned upon.

    2. The armed victim was not charged with a crime. Firing a warning shot can also be charged as Reckless Use of a Weapon.

    3. The New Orleans Police actually arrested someone not wanted for homicide.

    4. A person can pull a trigger on a gun already in play faster than a person can draw in fire. Something is wrong in the above case. Were the perps using a toy gun in a real robbery? Was the male victim accurate in what he told police? Was he just lucky the perps did not even shoot at him or did they only say they had a gun?

Having lived in New Orleans and having to have dealt with both the scum there and the police there, I cannot say enough bad about either of them.

Sadly, I will be working there from 10/20/13 until 10/24/13. I will be staying in their hotels, driving their streets and I will certainly be armed and I do not be firing warning shots.

    A 9mm might expand but a .45acp never shrinks.
