Question Why so much bashing of visible carrying?

(Let's skip the deliberately taunting few examples of "youtubers" we all have seen. This discussion IS NOT intended to be about that small (almost statistically insignificantly small) portion of the carrying population. Please, let's ignore "that" element for now. This isn't about that.)

What is it about visible carry that gets "gun" folks all bent out of shape? Why such vehemence against those who opt to openly, visibly carry while going about their normal, everyday, upstanding lives? Is it that folks presume anyone carrying is inciting folks to riot or jump on them? Is it that we fear the political backlash so much that we'd prefer to jump on "our own" for exercising the basic liberty of carry? What is it? IOW ... can't we all just get along, accepting that one method might not be everyone's cuppa but that it's all good so long as not in-your-face deliberately inciting of other people's passions?

If we are talking about averge joe citizen who has a open pistol on his belt I have no problems at all. Where I do have a problem is the idiots who want to be stars on youtube . IMOP all this going around with ar looking for trouble stuff leads to more trobule etc.

I think seeing a non scary looking man with a open handgun is great it deseinstized people to guns as tools .

I think also it is about where you live .In CA open carry was done more as protested and in a look at me I have a gun sort of way ( now all forms loaded or unloaed carry are banned save for some unincoprated arras). here in AZ land I have open carry and seen other peopel OC but most of time it was not to make a statement but it was 102 out and light clothing was needing or that ..

Also some states you have to OC ( NV for one I can not CCW there but I can legal OC , last I look at least) or in MO you can only OC in a places that serve booze etc.

Never had a problem with someone open carrying; only time I have commented was to complement someone on their choice of carrying a Ruger SR1911.

Yep only been called out twice for OC . First time was when a cop asked why I oc he said I will lose the element of surprise , I said it is about 103 out I am not putting a jacket on. The other time someone ask if I hunted or was hunting ( I was carrying a double stack 9mm on a public trail ) ..

I should also add in AZ one can legal OC at 18 but has to be 21 to cc so you will see some young looking people OC here ..

I guess I haven't seen that much bashing directed at normal people for open carry. Some of the Youtube types, yes, and often well-deserved. I do tend to think concealed is sometimes a better choice, but to each their own.

I live next door to Oklahoma and have yet to see anyone OC. (It is legal there) I prefer CC but that is just me, if you want to OC it is fine with me.

Personally I think Open Carry is comfortable, practical, and not thet big a deal. Like everything else it has it's place. Depending on the circumstance it's fine. Open carry in my opinion has tactical disadvantages that outweigh any tactical advantage. IMO The problems with open carry are mostly attributed to the show off's and those promoting an agenda.

Virtually anything and everything firearms-related is personal preference... as it should be. Everyone has their opinion, but everyone has a similar physical attribute as well.

OC is legal in Ohio, but I've only done it once. That was a trip to the range. I have not seen one person OCing around here, except a few employees of a LGS and at the range.

I would open carry at times if it were legal in SC but would still CC for the most part. No problem with those that do OC. I do have a problem with wannabe's and show offs but have found the best way to deal with them is to ignore them.

I personally don't mind when others open carry. In fact, it makes me feel more secure because - in my experience at least - those who do generally have the necessary experience to properly use their weapon if needed.

That having been said, I personally don't like the additional attention. Unfortunately, guns have become stigmatized to a point where open carrying makes you stick out like a sore thumb. As an olive-skinned guy who rocks a beard in a post 9/11 world, I get more than enough of "those" looks thankya very much. Haha.

I agree. I have no issue with open carry of handguns, but I am disappointed with the generally bad press that goes along with open carry of rifles and/or shotguns in a non-hunting environment. While it really has no effect on me, it just seems like open carry of long guns has evolved into an activity merely done in order to create a sensation. That is to say, OC of long guns seems to be more of an attempt to get media attention rather than a serious desire to defend oneself.

OC is a personal choice like others have said i do it on occasion in VA and PA . I do not believe i am trying to be a show off but if people feel that on this Gun Forum that is pretty sad and that is something i can live with .
