A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.
I can imagine hundreds of spectators running screaming when a local Police Officer is carrying his weapon openly, while directing traffic!
Let her carry, I dont agree with her choice of method of carry - it does make her an easier target... but on the other hand it does have some deterence value. I applaud her for sticking to her "guns"

my kids is one of the reasons I carry what good does it do them if I can't carry and something happens.
When they respond, "But the police officer is a trained professional" I usually refer them to that video of the DEA guy shooting himself in the classroom full of kids. I know for a fact that I have spent far more time shooting and training with my guns than the average LEO (not doggin' on LEOs; I've worked closely with LEOs for years. It's just that the average LEO is actually not very gun savvy--though there are those out there who are).
People are irrational about guns, and that irrationality is fed by the media and antis all the time. What the public needs is more education on the facts.
I think Walvord has the right approach. This sort of thing shouldn't be at the sheriff's discretion.
I spent some time in Israel back in the mid-1980's. Parents waiting at school bus stops with their kids were armed as were the parents attending school events. In fact pretty much everybody we saw was carrying some type of fully automatic weapon and nobody seemed concerned. I don't think we should all start packing Uzi's but in today's world it might be handy to have at least one concerned and armed parent close by.
I did a quick check and don't see this posted. I opened up my newspaper this morning and saw Melanie Hain on the front cover. I told my wife about it and we got into another heated discussion about 2A. I won't bore anyone with the gory details, but here's the link.

I saw her interview on the news.I admire her guts to fight this nonsense. Our country has so many hand-wringers and people who will not fight back to protect their rights. This lady is a hero for freedom.
She handled herself quite well IMO. I don't think she sounded, as she stated "arrogant" when answering one question.
For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the son of man be. Mathew 24:27
Yep, she is definitely a hero of the Second Amendment! She rocks!
I hope more females out there take a tip from her and start carrying to protect their children. The world would be a better place.
