I CC but OC in Pennsylvania for the first time...

I went up to Pennsylvania for a friend's birthday party last weekend. I live in South Carolina and have a CCW permit, so I was able to CC all the way up to WV. I don't have my NH permit yet so I was unable to CC in Pennsylvania...thus my first experience with OC.

No one looked at me weird or made any comments, but I felt so odd. First, my wife and friends with us (all who know I CC) saw me OC but I felt they would think I was showing off (they never said anything), and second, being the first time OC I felt so awkward like I needed to hide it. I found myself covering my gun with my arm a lot. I was terrified of someone freaking out, or calling the LEO.

If OC is legalized in SC I don't know that I ever would...any thoughts?

You chose to carry openly in PA rather than go unarmed, nothing bad happened: good choice. Despite all those internet horror stories, legal open carry is usually a non-event.

No need to worry about SC until if or when open carry becomes legal there.

I dont think Id OC all the time. It would be nice to have the option though.

I can see myself doing the OC thing at certain places. I OC all the time on my property. does that count?

Remember when you first started CC'ing? You thought everyone was looking at you. You just know everyone could see your gun. Now that you have been carrying it is second nature and you no longer think about it. The same goes with OC'ing. The more you do it, the more comfortable you get.

I remember the first time I CC'ed. I kept tugging on my shirt to make sure it was over my pistol. I must have looked like I had OCD.

Yep, same thing here. First time I OC'ed after moving to Tennessee I felt like everyone was looking at me and jumping on their cell phones to call the Law. But they aren't.

    OC is a great thing.

The great thing is to have the option ... also called "freedom".

We don't have it here in Florida, but I cannot complain too much; printing or even exposing (the gun ...) if it is not intentional, has no consequences.

I felt very self consious the first time I OCd out side of job duties (armed security guard). I was worried about the reaction. Once I saw no reaction whatsoever, I OCd again, and again, and again.

I don't go anywhere unarmed. I always OC. When there is a reaction, it is mostly from those who are curious (future gun owners??) rather than the antis. I've never had a MWAG call about me.

Now, I've never OC'd in a city on the scale of Chicago or New York City (especially since that would not be legal), but I have in Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN (where I currently live). I OC in the heart of downtown Nashville on a nearly daily basis, just a couple blocks from the state capitol. Never a single problem.

I have OC'ed many times in Memphis, and it is full of liberal anti types. In fact, Shelby County is the single most left leaning County in Tennessee. (one of, or possibly the only County that went in favor of our current Socialist in Chief in the recent election) But, we still have the most, by far, permit holders in the state here in Shelby County. Seems even the Libs are pretty gun friendly around these parts....

Exactly just another part of responsible gun ownership. Another example that we are not the center of the universe and are just not that important to most other people.

I hope you realize you CANNOT OC in a vehicle in PA without your LTCF or reciprocal license from another state?
You must be on foot at all times to OC in PA without a license.

No OC in a vehicle without license.

Can't you OC in a vehicle in PA as long as you have ANY CCW, regardless if it is reciprocal w/PA or not?
