Right now it is basically a non starter. There have been some petitions circulating but Gov. Perry said last year that he didn't think people were ready for that yet.
We need to have someone author and then sponsor a Bill. I've written my Representative and requested same. I received one of those boiler plate responses about him supporting open carry, but no response on whether he would author or sponsor a Bill.
I approached my state rep with this face to face and he said he didn't know if he would support it. I stated that if was written the right way a person with a carry permit wouldn't have to be so worried about exposing his weapon when he step out of a car or truck to put on a jacket or something to cover the weapon. Printing a little would be such a big thing either. He like the thought. State Rep. is Joe Driver in Garland, Texas. He is supporting the campus carry.
From Rep. Joe Driver in which he reiterated his roll in supporting the Castel Doctrine, CHL law, and open carry on private property. However he expressed concern about public open carry contributing to confusion to stressful situations. I was supprised to see that the letter was actually signed instead of being printer generated.
Very true! A major reason I carry 2 or 3 guns is because my peace officer status lets me carry so many places my wife cannot. One gun is for her, during an emergency.
I must admit as far as gun laws in Texas, we have some of the most liberal ones when travelling and such, but when it comes to CC, it gets quite extensive in the how's, who's and why's of things.
