My in-Laws are in town, up from Mobile Alabama. They are great folks and by no means anti-gun at all. We used to live "next door" which in the sticks of deep Mobile County meant, in the winter we could see their house lights at night, kind of. I used to have my own shooting range that my oldest son and I hacked out of the Alabama Rain Forrest on our property so they were very used to hearing gun fire.
Anyway, today, the kids wanted to go to the mall (I hate the mall, let me state that again for the record) so off we went so Grandma could buy the kids all kind of crap they don't need. But hey, that's what Grandma's and Grandpa's do, so I don't argue.
I was carrying concealed because I am just a tad more comfortable carrying concealed vs. open at the mall. Mall Cops being as highly trained as they are and all, just seems better to carry concealed there. Besides, lots of people crammed into small areas, seems tailor made for a gun grab.
As we exited the mall, I noticed it had warmed up since we arrived. So, as we got to the mini van, I removed the shirt I had concealed with and threw it into the van. We then headed over to TCBY for a frozen treat. Once we piled out of the van and went inside, we were standing there ordering our yogurts and my Father in Law says to me, "You know your gun is out in the open right?"
I told him yes and then told him open carry was 100% legal here in Tennessee. He asked me if I ever got hassled about it or did it ever make anyone feel uneasy. So I asked the rather cute girl behind the counter if she felt uneasy about me having a gun on. She said "Nope. I like it when people come in with them visible. It's the hidden ones I worry about." She and my Father in Law then talked briefly about it before she had to help someone else. She told him that it was very common here and no big deal at all.
As we had our yogurts my Father in law kept watching the people who were coming and going at the store to see if anyone reacted to it. He said he saw some of them look at the gun but no one freaked out at all and he was surprised that most of the people who came in during the 40 minutes or so that we were there didn't notice that I was armed at all. Condition white....avoid it.
We had a great weekend.

good to hear a positive experience. oc is legal here, but i get hassled by almost everyone about it.
It's nice to hear positive OC situations. I look at this as the vast majority of the are too involved with whatever to even notice that you were armed. Probably better that way

Darn. Now I have to add Tennessee to the list of states I may be willing to move to some day.
Good answer by the girl behind the counter.

No! Not you! Who'd a thought!"I hate the mall, let me state that again for the record"
Nice story! Sounds like a great weekend!
"He went on two legs, wore clothes and was a human being, but nevertheless he was in reality a wolf of the Steppes. He had learned a good deal . . . and was a fairly clever fellow. What he had not learned, however, was this: to find contentment in himself and his own life. The cause of this apparently was that at the bottom of his heart he knew all the time (or thought he knew) that he was in reality not a man, but a wolf of the Steppes."
I don't see it often here, but I know it's legal. As soon as I get some real shooting time with my new Glock, I'll open carry as much as I can, given that I still need to schedule my CCP class and the wait time as you guys know is unbearable!
Good story...I was just in Tn (Eastern) visiting with the parents for a long weekend. I carried everywhere concealed, but when I get a proper OWB holster (one that has some sort of retention system) I might try open carrying while I'm up there.
