Are Things Looking Up in Wisconsin?

"MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said people who openly carry firearms shouldn't automatically be charged with disorderly conduct.

He made the statement in an advisory opinion mailed on Monday to the state's district attorneys.

The state constitution allows people to openly carry firearms for lawful purposes, including hunting.

Van Hollen said that in some circumstances openly carrying a firearm might warrant a disorderly conduct charge. But he says other facts and circumstances should be considered before automatically charging someone with disorderly conduct simply for carrying a firearm in the open.

Wisconsin is one of two states where it is illegal to carry a concealed weapon."

It may be a small step, but here's to 2010 and ridding Wisconsin of the Curse of Governor J Doyle and his Concealed Carry Veto pen!

It's a step in the right direction, that's for sure.

How could they say that open carry of a firearm is legal, but doing so constituted disorderly conduct which would be illegal?

Glad they're getting it sorted out!

At least Wisconsin's Attorney General has some sense, now they just need to move towards allowing people the right to carry concealed. It has been a long hard battle to expand shall issue legislation across the country. Many states remain "may issue" but some possibility of getting a CCW permit is better than none at all.

The last time I checked, it was illegal to carry a concealed weapon in 48 states.

You refer to those without a permit, of course.

He does but, technically, he is correct.

My text isn't quite clear to all apparently. I meant we in WI are unfortunate to reside in a state that has no CC permit available. The were also misplaced, sorry. Doyle the Dictator gets me all fired up

It's not so bad. The State just doesn not want you to have the option to hide your sidearm. So I say, wear your sidearm proudly, just like Doyle says!

If it were not for "gun free school zones", I would never renew my Utah permit.
