Two men shopping at Stop&Shop on Valley St. in Manchester asked to leave

Two friends of mine were shopping at Stop&Shop on Valley street in Manchester, NH the other day when they were approached by 4 Manchester officers with nothing better to do than to escort them (without the items they were trying to purchase) out of stop and shop. They were told the manager called the police and that they were welcome but their pistols were not. In my opinion that means they are not welcome. I will not be going to back stop and shop in any town unless I hear that they received a apology.

I try to avoid the stop-and-rob's anyways. Too much potential for becoming a victim of more than just the poor wages they pay their clerks.

Just the presence of armed shoppers might be the reason 'potential' BG's may decide that there are easier pickins' somewhere else.OMO

I would definitely let the CEO of the company know how I felt. I do understand why, in that setting, they could get nervous about the guns, but calling the police is out of line. The store I assume wasn't posted, so your friends wouldn't know that they weren't wanted. So, write that letter, and suggest to your friends that they write as well.

matiki--I try to do the same thing, in NH the stop and shops are actually pretty nice supermarkets. Kinda like Publix in the south.

the names mess people up, I still can't believe someone named a store the piggly-wiggly, i mean, ***??

How did the store manager know they had guns if they were concealed carry?
    Were they open carry?

Tom, take a look at the forum you are posting in buddy. This is the OPEN CARRY section of Defensivecarry.com. Obviously, they were carrying openly.

I wonder if my son might know them.

He's in Manchester, supposedly looking for work. Spent Easter Sunday with some Free State libertarian buddy who had a range in his back yard.

Probably knows them. And I probably know him too, as I spent Easter Sunday with some Free State Libertarian people at a guys place who has a range in his backyard. Then again a bunch of us up here have ranges in their backyard. The long distance range I use is across the road. The tactical, walk through the woods and find/shoot targets setup by a buddy, is on my property for anyone with a rimfire rifle/pistol and has good enough aim to be within 3 ft of the center of a target.

A number of people have gone to speak with the manager of the Stop and Shop and he stated that he has no problems with people carrying guns and he himself is a gun owner.

Somewhere it sounds ilke it may have been either a customer/employee, but it doesn't sound like it is policy.

    Just received this....

Manager described the situation as a couple customers pointing out Miller OCing to him, whereupon he asked the store security and the detail officer to deal with it. The cop took it upon himself to (1) call for backup, in the form of the additional three officers, and (2) ask them to leave the store. Apparently May 5, when the incident happened, is one of their busiest days, and a day they tend to have incidents like fistfights, purse snatchings, &c.; he said he called the security and cop over to deal with it because there was no way he was going to confront a teenager carrying a weapon and “wearing camouflage pants” himself. He was unaware Mike was with Miller until after the cops intervened. He also kept pointing out that he has to keep his customers happy, so that’s why he dealt with it as he did. He’s aware he may lose more customers than he keeps if they ban OCing in the store.

As for future policy, he reiterated he’s waiting to hear back from the corporate office for a set policy.
