First sheep comment...funny
I went to our local Kroger super market today to pick up some sodas and some charcoal lighter for the Memorial Day cookout. (Which we managed to squeeze in between rain showers) and as I was loading my stuff into the back of the Jeep a small white car pulled up with New Jersey plates on it. We don't see too many New Jersey plates here in West Tennessee so it kind of stood out.
2 pleasant looking ladies in their mid 40's to early 50's got out and I commented on the fact that they were the first set of New Jersey plates I had seen and asked how long a drive it was.
After less than a minute of chit chat, the driver asked if I was a police officer. (Glock 23 holstered in a SERPA on my right hip, openly carried and spare mag on my left.) I told them no.
When I said "no" a look of terror and almost panic came over both of their faces. The driver then asked "Why do you have THAT on?" pointing to the gun.
My response was, "For the same reason that I wear my seat belt and have a fire extinguisher in the back of the car here. I hope I never have to use either but if I do, I have them at the ready."
I then explained that if they were going to be here in Shelby County for a day or two that they may as well get used to being in the Free United States of America as there are over 25,000 people with carry permits in Shelby and we can carry openly or concealed. And that more than likely, they had already come into contact with several people who were armed but they didn't know it.
I then wished them a good day and put my cart in the cart corral. I heard one of them mutter something about the "Crazy South" as they walked away. I'm sure they can't wait to get back to their safe heaven of New Jersey as soon as they can.

I grew up in NJ - if we shoot you there, we are supposed to drag the body to PA or roll it up in a carpet - the city picks up on Wednesdays.

I worked in New York for years and was going to move to Atlanta for 3 years where I would be travelling between Texas and Georgia for work. Everyone in NYC warned me about the South, they told me I would face racism, hatred, even death. I have never faced one case of racism or hateful confrontation from anyone in Georgia or Texas or South Carolina during the years I worked there. The people I met in the South welcomed me like I was family and I have never felt as warm anywhere else. In fact, I faced more crazy nuts who hated me right here in Seattle and NYC.
I am so glad you can open carry in your county. I wish I could here in Seattle.

Hey, watch those Yankee comments, I resemble those remarks.
I retired out of the North, but now enjoy living in the South.
Those down here still refer to me as a Yankee.

I resemble those remarks too! (But I still agree. Poor deluded yankees..)
