Going to Kansas tomorrow....going to open carry for the first time.
Well, this will be my first chance at open carry, and me being from a non-open state. I can carry concealed in Kansas with my Arkansas permit, and I've already done it. But this will be something new for me and I'm looking forward to it actually. Anyone here from Baldwin City, KS? That's where I'm headed bright and early in the AM. My girlfriend has been up there for a week visiting relatives and I'm going to pick her up. I don't know if we'll get out on the town much on a Sunday, but I've checked the city codes, and I'm good to go everywhere other than public buildings or city parks and such. From what I've researched, only Wichita and the KC metro area are the Kansas areas with the most confusion on the issue. I'd ask for you all to wish me luck, but then again, I don't think luck will have anything to do with matters. I'm just gonna do it because I can, and I'm going to feel good about it.

Because you already have concealed permit, I am somewhat confused as to why it is so important to you to carry open in another state. I don't intend to be critical, but as I see it, possible reasons are:
__ It makes you feel safer.
__ For getting attention drawn to yourself.
__ It makes you feel important.
__ For shock and awe to those who do not like guns.
__ To make a political statement.
__ Because the law permits open carry, it provides an element of excitement.
__ Because it permits a quicker draw than drawing from concealed.
__ Other [Specifiy].

__Other [Specifiy]= Because open carry requires no permit, and as we know the 2nd amendment well enough to see it should be that way no matter where we go. Besides....I like to assert my rights whenever possible as it's a reminder to me that 1) our government has lost sight of our founding principles here in these United States of America, and 2) to remind others that those rights are still there, and the common citizen should not fear what they know is right and laid out in truth. I can tell by the amount of your possible reasons listed, your analyzing, and your assumptions that you yourself may very well be unsure. While you state that you don't wish to be critical, and myself...removing my presumption that your intentions appear contrary to that statement, I'd say without a doubt that you've never been where I have, you'll never be where I am, and you have no idea where I'm going. If your full intention was to learn something from your query, then consider it done.

Good luck, Ram Rod. I'm sure you'll be fine, with no incident at all. And thank you for exercising your right and supporting 2A for all of us.

Be careful, there are 'local ' ordinances in Kansas that make 'open carry' illegal, whether you have a CCH or not. You have to really know each area's ordinances.

An excellent idea, Ram Rod. To me, exercising an ancient right is preferable to exercising a licensed privilege. Please report on the experience ex post facto.

Or maybe because its his "constitutional right" ? In Ky anyone can open carry without a permit at the age of 18 but you cant get a ccw until you're 21. So if someone open carries because they dont have a permit, they trying to "show off"? I was actually stunned at your comments. It's almost anti 2nd ammendment....

I open carry when I go to Nashville or another part of Ky. I dont open carry here because I dont want everyone to know I carry a gun.
It feels like "freedom "to me. It advertises to others " you can do it too". I've never been asked one question about it when Im out. I usually carry IWB so its not always even obvious I'm carrying. I look forward to open carrying whenever I can....

Good luck RR...I'll be interested in what you experience as I am going to try and do the same thing in July in both IN and MI.
Stay armed...enjoy your 2A rights...stay safe!

Its legal and he wants to do it. Why does he need a reason?

It was a nice trip yesterday. Made for a very long day, but Kansas is a cool place, and I've lived there before. Open carried where allowed, and made stops in Pittsburg, Fort Scott, Edgerton, Baldwin City, and Lawrence. Two Wal Marts and several gas/convenience stores without a hitch. Both Wal Marts I went to had ammo, and Lawrence had plenty of 9mm, 40S&W, and 45acp, plus two bricks of 22lr 40gr solid Thunderbolt. I concentrated on the 9mm since that is what's hardest to come by around my home turf.

Awesome! Sounds very uneventful and hassle-free. As it should be.
