I'm just curious how many support an open carry permit vs. no permit open carry. To me having to have a permit for something that is a constitutional right is a huge slap in the face. I think it's just as bad as having no open carry what so ever.
I agree that a right to carry should not require a permit. However, if it were that way, we would have people carrying firearms that have no business near one, and one really important fact, we would not know the GG from the BG. I know there is always the potential that even a licensed CC holder can be a BG too, but they are rare. Unfortunately, the world we live in today is what influences the legislation concerning this and all other aspects in our lives. It is a sad fact that the relatively few people in our society that do bad things, are the ones responsible for the rights of law abiding people being threatened and restricted.

To all those who say they oppose OC... I think the founding fathers would NOT support any type of licenses CC or OC... They wrote in the Bill of Rights "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"
It doesn't say "... the right of the people to keep and bear arms -with a permit and training classes and practice and you have to be ___ years old, and you can only bring a gun into certain area's and other places like you can't carry and B.S. B.S. B.S...-shall not be infringed."
They wrote it plain and simple so that the average shoe maker, blacksmith, glass blower, shop keeper, etc. etc. could pick up there rifle/shotgun/whatever and protect himself/herself from tyranny and corruption. END OF STORY PERIOD :comeandgetsome::comeandgetsome:
The Right To Keep And Bear Arms Shall Not Be Infringed.
So simple. So straightforward. So impossible to misinterpret, particularly once the little wrinkle of "the militia" is understood to simply mean "the population of able men." I am of the opinion it therefore can only be concluded that the misinterpretations have been deliberate and are thus heinous and evil in their conception.
The people of the original founding states set down those rights they deemed all people had, inherently, and they proscribed the things the government may not ever do, which included the infringing of the rights of all people to arm themselves and to bear those arms. It's appalling how misconstrued and twisted the interpretations have become through the centuries, while the governing powers have sought to limit the ability of the People to be armed.
I voted no. Here in NH, you do not need a permit to OC. You only need a permit to CC.
However..... you DO need a CC permit in order to have a handgun concealed in your car. If you are OC and then step into an automobile with your firearm still OC on your belt, you are in violation of the law. Your firearm is considered "concealed" if it is not within view while seated inside a conveyance. For the $10 shall issue permit here in NH that lasts at least 4 years, it would behoove anyone to ensure they had that CC permit.
Oc by Permit if that's what you really want,I personally don't see why anyone would want too! If carrying it's more strategic to have your sidearm concealed, that way no one knows if you have one or where it is,so it gives YOU the edge! The element of surprise!
When you Oc a BG knows exactly where you gun is and can make his grab for your gun at any given time, waiting for you to be at your worst moment, when you get inattentive for a few seconds we all do it,you can't say,you don't,that's all they need, and a BG will take his time to follow you for any length of time just for that moment! In my opinion OC is just showing off your gun.LEO and Military have to,they have no choice.Civilians have no need to OC there's no real reason for it,if there was an advantage to OC don't you think undercover detectives would use it?Sorry,I know alot will disagree, but to me it's just to showoff, look at me I have a gun on my hip,I'm a cowboy type mentality. Just doesnt make sense to me when you can CC.
Open Carry Issues & Discussions Discussion regarding open carry in those States where it is legal to do so. This is not a place to debate the virtues of open vs concealed carry.
If you don't like OC then don't do it. Don't make up stories and badmouth those who chose to exercise their rights how they choose.
I would sure like to see some of the real stories, if any exist, about OC guns being stolen off someones hip by a gun stalker. I read this kind of nonsense all the time but never see any actual occurrences detailed.
In the meantime I fully support OC or CC as an individual chooses to do.
I too, have never heard a story of someones gun being taken by any miscreant or criminal gun-grabber because he was OC-ing. I've OC'd just about my whole adult life and have had no problems with it whatsoever.
OC or CC, whichever you prefer is your choice. Just don't insult how I choose to carry and I won't insult your lack of common sense, or anything else for that matter.
Here in Montana, it's legal to OC without a permit anywhere. CC is done without permit if you're outside the city limits. Inside the city limits a permit is needed. If someone doesn't have one and chooses to carry, they do so in a law-abiding manner.
Don't disrespect those who choose to OC, my guess is that a lot of them (us) have more experience doing so that you do either OC-ing or CC-ing.
PATHETIC !! Over 43% of the voters on a pro self defense board are gun control anti self defense fanatics. Confirming my long held suspicion that this board is infiltrated by Brady Bunch supporters and those who have bought the brain washing.
The poll should have included the Hell freaking NO option
As my sig says Those who would, deny, require permit, license, certification, or authorization for me to bear arms are as dangerous, vile & evil as those who would molest, abuse, assault, rape or murder my family
Gun permits Gun control does nothing to prevent crime it ONLY protects aids and abets the thugs and rapists. Anyone who thinks other wise needs to grow up, Get The Facts, quit drinking the kool aid or move to england
I think you may have to quantify your response. Myself... I voted NO to this poll because I feel that you should NOT have to have ANY permit to carry ANY firearm. Period. I stated the laws as they pertain to NH as the state I live in. OC is 100% legal without a permit in NH as long as you do NOT get into a vehicle. Once in a vehicle, your OC status is, for all intents and purposes, REVOKED! Once in a vehicle, your OC becomes CC and you need a permit. Crap legislation? No doubt. But that's the law.
I don't see where you are coming from with your response. Reading the posts you mention only show me that we have individuals on the board who have opinions on Open Carry and the Pros and Cons of that aspect of carry based on their opinion. I would venture a guess that both the posters you mention are most likely Pro 2A. That's only MHO though.
Step back, relax, and let's come together here and present a united front. Any opening in our defenses leaves ALL of us vulnerable to the lopsided and disgustingly foolish ideals of the "progressives" who think that guns should only be in the hands of the police or the military.
Did I quote or misquote you? Those I did quote posted misinformation. Common anti gun Brady Bunch myths and lies about OC in direct violation of forum rules. No I do not, will not, stand "with" anyone who supports gun control in any level. No I will not, do not, stand "with" anyone who presents misinformation on a public forum about gun ownership open or concealed carry.
Maybe some repeat brady bunch propaganda out of ignorance. Well they need to wake up, quit spreading lies. They need to start researching and have some idea of what they are talking about before posting the sky is falling myths. For fifty years I have watched my rights get sold down the creek by compromising half steppers. So no I do not have to stand with anyone who will tolerate gun control on any level. My sig says exactly what I feel about those that would compromise my rights
I do not believe any permit should be required for a citizen of the United States to legally carry a firearm, either openly, or concealed.
If you use your firearm to commit a crime, you should be punished to the full extent of the law. Otherwise, you should simply be left the heck alone to go about your life the way we were meant to. You are either a thug or you are not. A gun on your hip does not change who you are.
Why does the government need yet another control and source of income from their already overburdened middle class? The govt needs to reduce itself in size and extent., thus the T.E.A. party movement.
I just renewed my driver's license... It costs a whopping $40.50 now compared to $12.50 a few years ago. The govt. fees are far outstripping private sector wages or fees.
So NO we don't need another stinkin' gun control fee/permit.:frown:
i personally live in a state where open carry and concealed carry requires a LICENSE, not a permit. IMHO, i think that a permit or license is a good idea for any kind of carry, i enjoy my right to carry, and i have OC'ed and CC'ed. The only purpose i can see for a permit or license in general is the fact that it shows that I have passed FBI and ATF background checks as well as the one done by ISPD. Then if asked by a sheep if it is legal or not, i can take out my permit and show them that i am licensed to carry and that it is my right to choose how to do so. This normally results in a conversation about carrying and a possibility to turn a sheep into a sheepdog. Not to mention it puts LEO's at ease during an encounter because someone who open carries without a permit may or may not have obtained their firearm legally, that being said, most criminals won't OC anyway, but some are stupid and do
May Issue, Shall Issue are both equally vile. Who says we do not have active antis here on this forum? RIGHTSDO NOT require a permit license or certification. My sig. says exactly what I think of that. As long as there are gun owners who advocate for the anti self defense fanatics and volunteer victims our rights will continued to be restricted and denied us.
God or nature gave us these rights. Not the Constitution or any man made law. The Constitution simply enumerates our inalienable rights. Since when are humans qualified to override God or the laws of nature?
All those who support certification, license permits to exercise a God given right aid and abet robbers rapists and murders.
My friend was gunned down while she was waiting for her permit by a murder who did not bother with a permit. All those who supported her requirement to get a permit are as responsible for her death as the maggot that pulled the trigger, because they aided and abetted him. Made sure he would be protected and safe as he murdered a defenseless woman. Made defenseless because of the certification, license, permits you support.
Gun control laws have NEVER prevented a single crime or protected a single law abiding citizen They do protect robbers murders and rapists. Read my sig.
This is the face of one of the women that registration, permits license and certification scheme you are so proud of helped murder. Her name is Rebecca, if you would like to write her family and tell them how glad you are that she waited for the permit you support, I'll send you their address.
All the licenses/permit the government requires, this is ridiculous!! Driver's license, vehicle license, fishing license, hunting license, state lands usage fee on my hunting license. Licensing my dog, building permit, vehicle inspection permit. And then there's the one's the government wants to force on us.
When is all of this going to stop?? We don't need no stinkin' permits!! I don't like the fact that I already have to have a CCW permit as it is. States like Alaska and Vermont I think it is, have the right idea. I OC quite often where I live and I feel completely comfortable doing it. No-one has a problem with it and no-one I know thinks it necessary to have an OC or CC permit.
I guess we can continue to dream. For the time being, the government will try to cram every type of licensing they can down our throats!!
