Is it legal in mississippi to open carry
OC in Mississippi is a touchy subject. The current opinion is that to carry a handgun in Mississippi you must purchase a carry permit regardless of whether you CC or OC. One of our Miss. Supreme Court justices clouded the issue years ago with an opinion he wrote in which he said something to the effect that "if you could only see one side of the gun it could be considered concealed." This has been nothing but confusing for everyone and no one with the authority will make any attempt to clarify what OC or CC is. It's like they want it ambiguous so they can treat it however they want depending on who it is and what the circumstances are. So, for the meantime, in Mississippi, if you want to OC or CC you better get a permit. Even then if you OC you may get hassled by local LEOs who either don't know the law or don't like anyone else carrying a gun - even if it is legal OC. Laws that forbid the carrying of arms ... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes ... they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. Thomas Jefferson
