Racking The Slide Of Your Gun

I feel like this is a eureka moment for me!

Hold the slide and push the gun forward instead of pulling back on the slide!

Actually, I had my wife do both...pull the slide AND push the gun...it made it much easier for her.

Yep! There's more than one way to reinvent the wheel... I best do a 360 and get out of here before the push / pull wars
    I think, therefore I am...

Yes, push with the dominate hand and pull with the support hand, at the same time. NRA classes teach this method.

Don't forget corneredcat.com - in addition, she recommends getting your hips into the motion.

Bought her book just this morning and downloaded it on my Kindle Fire. I'm looking forward to reading it!

I use this method. It makes it a lot easier. One hand isn't forced to take the full pressure of the spring.

I can remember back about 60 years ago going through pistol marksmanship training and a Drill Sgt. caught me attempting to pull the slide back on a Colt 1911, needless to say I have only used the push pull method ever since.

This is a good explanation of the technique. There is one thing to beware of however, and I've seen it a lot with beginners: muzzle awareness tends to get lost during the struggle to rack the slide. The tendency is for them to remain facing the target, then rack the slide with this push-pull method. This results in the firearm being pointed across the range instead of downrange (in the "safe" direction) as is required.

I just went out and bought her a Sig P238 which solved the problem.
