Ya, the only time I have ever been near a "rattler" was in CO, I was hiking and jumped on a rock, and instantly heard this funny rattling noise....after about 3 sec I knew what it was and jumped right back off....

Anything by belleville. I wear the 390DESs as my duty boot (U.S. Army). I've put allot of miles in bellevilles dismounted in Afghanistan and Iraq. They are no-frills, but last forever and treat your feet well. They also make a cold weather version, not sure about waterproof.

I don't know know if they would be considered duty boots, but I wear Asolos for hiking. I have bought two pairs in over 13 years. I also have a pair of light hikers that are awesome.

I found some really nice new stomping in the woods boots, I have been wanting some for that purpose and/or SHTF survival boots.
I have a pair of Gore Tex Rocky boots in Mossy Oak that I've had for at least seven years, if not more. I couldn't tell you the model but even if I could, its doubtful that they're still available for purchase. When I replace them, I'll more than likely buy the same name brand for heavy woods/hunting use. They were my primary boot for several New England winters and have never left me wet or cold.

I also own a pair of the US issue desert tan boots. They're light, tough, and cheap. I use them mostly for outdoor firearm training/instruction, or any other time I'm in the woods in spring/summer.

Then there are several pair of Timberland work boots that I wear for general use, when the cold season begins.

I just ordered some Belleville boots (800ST) for work.

I've been trying to decide for a while if I wanted to stick with Red Wing boots which are reasonably comfortable and last a long time or give the Belleville boots a try based on recommendations in this thread. So if my feet (and legs) pay the price of this decision, I'll be sure to let you know.

If they're made in USA, feature Gore-Tex, and they have Vibram soles, then I'm game.
