Is there a way to get some feedback from prior customers before entrusting your natural ivory grips?

Judging by most laser engraving these days QK - I'd reckon it'd be pretty reliable.
Only critical factor IMO would be the quality of artwork you supply and the way that is (effectively) translated into the engraving. I have seen many examples of real great laser engraving - seems pretty fool proof.

Can you give them a "scrap" piece of ivory (if such a thing exists) to give them a "test", or is the cost prohibitive?

Rock & Glock read my mind.
I'm going to send them a slab of scrap Ivory along with my grips & have them "burn" that one first. If it is OK then I'll just have them go right ahed & do my grips...naturally, absolving them of any responsibility.
