Discreet Rifle Case
I had bought a cheap case at Dick's for my ruger and mossberg. I ended up returning it. It just looked to much like a rifle case. One of those cheap plastic ones that extremely long with dear pictures on it.
Does anyone know of any cases that don't scream rifle? It may be me overreacting, but would feel better not drawing quite as much attention going in an out of my apartment.

Unless you have a take-down gun, it's pretty difficult to disguise a rifle case. That said, you can move about with more class than the camo or deer-head specials you find at the big-box stores. Check out the classier offerings from Orvis for an idea.
Of course, thinking out of the box a bit, you could invest in some 8-inch diameter PVC pipe and a couple of caps... your neighbors might think you're a plumber.

An extra large duffle bag will do the job quite well. All they see is you carrying a large bag out and in. Keeps them guessing.

In and out of an apartment? Been there. Carried them openly from the door to the vehicle. More discreet than any case IMO. Hidden in plain sight is far better than trying to hide something that will seldom be noticed anyway. IMO.....you may draw more attention with a case than carrying one over the shoulder.

A discreet rifle case? Pretty tough to pull off unless you can break the rifle/shot gun down into several pieces.

Check out this story/article the example seems a little cheesy to me but the intention is in the right spot and it might point you in the right direction toward something subtle.

Right now I've been using what basically a gun sock for the shotgun, and just putting the 10/22 back in its box.
Seems like there's some good options.
But you might be right ram rod. If i just go out with it, people probably won't notice. Could draw more attention trying to hide it.

I used to consider ditching my plastic rifle case w/ foams. And I have seen the ones that are made out of nylon from Bulldog and Blackhawk. The things I do not like is that their zipper or padlock hole is not plastic or steel, which makes breaking in a lot easier. Another thing about the discreet rifle cases is that you can't carry that many accessories with the rifle in it (mags, spare bolt, note pad, pen, chamber flag=required at my local range when it goes cold, silicone cloth, M-16/AR-15 operator's manual/2 small padlocks/Lula and Cammenga speedloaders). The plastic rifle case, I can pretty much do that and I alscan also place those accessories that I mentioned under the foam. So, I am going to stick with the rifle case. Again, it's just my opinion since what I bring to the range with my rifle is different from or similar to what the others bring over there.

Rifle cases are long and narrow. The only way to really make them more discreet is to increase the width of the case so it looks like you may be carrying some sort of folding table. Blackhawk's Discreet Rifle Case pretty much does that, as much as practical. The link for them has already been posted in post #3 by jwhite75.
The only other way is to use some other type of case which the rifle may fit inside but is not related at all to a weapons case.

One thing I'd walked way from wit that experience is to learn a little about cellos. They are HUGE and the cases for them are tremendously bulky and heavy...Typically with wheels to roll them around. She had both a fiberglass model as well as one custom made to her cello from hand formed carbon fiber. Th CF was very strong and much lighter than fiberglass...But the cost was four figures. And still as empty it was not 'light'.
A btter more user functional option would be to look into cases for a sax or the ubiquitous guitar.
For all around use including flight shipping I'd likely choose a hard case for guitar that is TSA compliant as related to a firearm.
The interior I would gut and then re-build in high density foam custom cut to my gun(s) and whatever else comes with.

As well a cello case looks very odd and draws attention, as well is extra difficult to fit in to basically anywhere including hallways and through doorways that are not extra wide. Forget about a car...It takes up the entire passenger front & rear seats like a dead body only Dom DeLuise size..
Where as a guitar...Everybody and grandpa has one of those. Strap it to your back and roll.

There are guitar cases these days that look very similar to simple rifle cases... they might even be the same thing. You could always buy a very simple rifle case, and slap some Fender and other guitar and band related stickers on it. It won't fool anyone who knows what they're looking at, but it might fool the right people.

Somebody think they just scored a nice guitar only to find an AR15 inside
