Unfortunately there is no definitive answer. There is no law relating and no case law to go on. There is an AG opinion from 1984 that says it is legal and gives the circumstances. I know of no testing of this opinion and I have search for several years. You can read the opinion here: http://www.handgunlaw.us/documents/a...OOpenCarry.pdf

I misread the heading sorry for off topic answer.

Alabama has some different laws and sheriff can add restrictions. He probably needs to go talk with his local sheriff.

Alabama code Section 13A-11-50 defines concealed weapons, but only lists "bowie knife or knife or instrument of like kind or description or a pistol or firearm of any other kind or an air gun". I don't know if there are any other laws that regulate OC spray or similar. In general, AL is pretty lenient, but I don't know about OC spray. I would say it is fine, but, that is just my SWAG. I would be very careful about carrying one into any State or County office - sometimes they get cranky about that.

For what its worth, according to a number of OC sales sites, there are no laws in Alabama relative to OC or noxious substances other than its use in criminal endeavors. Those results can be seen by doing a search on, "Alabama laws on pepper OC spray".

I am unaware of any law that would prohibit the concealment of pepper spray or a tazer in AL. My wife does so daily.

    Couldn't re-edit my post but,

I called the sheriffs' office (offices?) of Madison, Jefferson, and Shelby counties just to double check. OC and tazers are a go. Don't know what county your friend is in but I figure if someone else is searching for the information it's here

As far as I know... If carrying OC spray is legal for citizens in a particular state, it is legal to carry it concealed. I know of no states that mandate OC spray to be carried openly where everyone can see it if they allow citizens to possess.

For decades, it has been something women carried in their purses to ward off rapists. I would say, if it's legal for citizens to possess and use, then it's okay to carry it concealed. (JMHO)

Now, I am not an attorney, and I don't live in Alabama. I realize that sometimes, total absurdity is the rule of law.
