If the potential trouble is so far away that I need a monocular to see it, I can probably just get away. So, for EDC, I think not. At night, you are better off with a good light - to distinguish a weapon from a wallet or a cell phone.
There have been a couple of times in the past when I would have liked having a telescopic optic in order to catch a license plate # but, that would be a quite rare occasion.
