Actually, this may be somewhat practical in HD situation at night for those who don't want a light mounted on their handgun and use a free carry tac light. Assuming it is "aim-adjustable", it would free up the fingers on the weak hand to assist with normal holding of the weapon. Also, if mounted on the weak wrist, that arm can be held away from your body if searching your home in the dark for a possible intruder, making you less of an easy target. Just some thoughts, but I may want to check into this further.
Id be concerned with activation and/or utilization in a SD situation.
If it's on your support hand, how do you activate it when you're holding a gun with your shooting hand? If it's on your shooting hand, how do you use it without pointing the gun at anything you want to identify?
