If you search for cosmoline removal, you should find something.

Brake cleaner works, but do it outside in a well ventilated area. Brake cleaner does everything, LOL

Kerosene or mineral spirits both work

^^^Those. Use the "non-chlorinated" brake cleaner.

If it is Cosmoline...Buy a gallon of common paint thinner AKA Mineral Spirits. Let them soak for a while even overnight. That should dissolve every trace of it.

A can of Gumout Carberator Cleaner...just hose it down over a garbage can and it will run out like melted butter. Re-oil it.

My wife found me struggling to remove cosmoline from a recently purchased Mosin Nagant and suggested I try Dawn liquid dish detergent. With a lot of skepticism I took her advice. It worked! After rinsing well and drying, I finished the job with non chlorinated brake cleaner.

If it's a sticky orangeish grease, it's probably cosmoline. Mineral spirits. If you have a lot, letting them soak is good. If you want to waste less, dip an AP brush in a small bowl of mineral spirits and brush it on. It'll be slower and more time consuming, but you'll need less mineral spirits.

I think some people use an oven, or a plastic bag on the dash of a car on a hot day, or a blow/hair dryer/heat gun....

Dawn gets the grease out, even the gravy dribbles on shirts.
