Store would not sell me body armor
I was recently in a police supply store where you can buy 5.11 stuff, vests, flashlights, lots of cop related stuff, etc. They had a whole bunch of body armor on clearance. I called to see if they still had it and the clerk said that they would not sell to me unless I had a DPST number, which is a Department of Public Safety and Training number. I asked about conceal carry permits and apparently that does not qualify.

Tangle had a similar issue. In my area it is not regulated like that. I see it at gun shows often. Try online. I have considered getting some as well.

Turn the election's in 2014 to a "2A Revolution". It will serve as a 1994 refresher not to "infringe" on our Second Amendment. We know who they are now.........SEND 'EM HOME.

I guess you saved a bit of money, didn't you?
Is that a store policy, or a regulatory requirement?

Go in and try it on, determine what size you need and buy it on line. Plenty of sources out there. You can probably get it at a better price too.

The local fire/police supply store here also carries some items that are "LEO sales only". I wouldn't take it personally :)

If they don't want money from citizens they won't get any. There are TONS of places online that would sell it to you in a heartbeat.

Believe me, if you are not performing work where you will need to wear it, then you won't. It's the one article of my day I go without whenever I can.

I got mine through- BulletProofMe.com. I spent about $435.00 total. The guys will bend over backward to help you get the correct fit. Great website, and follow-up. I do recommend that you have them over lap the sides a little, these are made to YOUR measurements, and fit like a glove. Mine does. If you have any questions feel free to ask as I will sub to this thread. Keep in mind that some States don't allow their subjects to own these vest.
By the way, I bought an extra soft plate chest plate from a guy on C.L., last month. I slip it under my other vest, just in case. And they are VERY hot in the Summer.

And make sure and thank them, expaining what you just did. If they don't know, they won't learn.

5.11 vests, you mean?
If 'mental illness' is a main cause of gun-grabbing sentiments, then mental illness is the true enemy.

I just want to point out that it might not be because the store is snooty and doesn't want to sell to the regular guy; a lot of manufacturers of this stuff give retail stores special pricing if they sell to agency only.

Having just wore some for the first time (Did a ride along with a Police Officer as part of my Police Auxiliary Training) for 13 hours, I have to concur that it is not fun to wear. Still felt like I was wearing it for a few hours after taking it off. That being said I suppose it is harder to put on while bullets are flying at you than putting on a seat belt right before impact.
