I bought a shell holder similar to one above. It is made to stretch over the stock and works quite well. I was thinking though: If you have the shells stored with the metal side up then when you go to turn the shotgun over and reload that it is actually awkward. Since the elastic is quite adequately tight, it seems like storing the shells upside down is a bit easier for reloading. Anybody else out there store them upside down? I tried it and it seems to work well!
I store mine upside down in the $5 shell holder I got that stretches over the buttstock. I also don't turn my gun upside down to reload it, I simply turn it sideways and by storing the shells upside down on the right side of the stock (I'm a righty). I can simply pull them out and slide them in.
