My D.M. Bullard Holsters just arrived! -Pics

Well, I went out to D.M Bullard in Azle, TX last week. The hour drive from the DFW area was well worth the experience I had.

I am a thin guy and concealing can sometimes be challenging, because I refuse to wear ugly, out of style prints and oversized clothing. I wanted to find a quality, semi-custom holster and belt that would conceal extremely well and make me feel great wearing it.

I had scheduled an appointment (simply called them and gave notice) and made sure they didn't mind letting me try on various models in order to get the right fit. Not only did they agree to let me come out to their shop, they could not have been more accommodating. ...seriously. They measured me and made a few suggestions based on the pistol I was purchasing for (a Colt Commando). I tried on several holsters and was surprised that the models I had hoped would work didn't really. This was a huge deal! I know how many holsters the average person goes through in order to find the perfect fit, and they saved me the trouble.

Buying the right holder was even more key because I wanted something a bit extraordinary. For me, that meant having it made in an exotic leather. After the owner's wife showed me all of the leathers available (the actual hides, not just samples), I ended up choosing to have the holster and belt made in elephant. I liked the texture and the depth, and the brown color, called bark, is rich. These pics don't do it justice.

I will likely carry the Bodyguard at 3:30-4:00. And the BTB will likely be carried at 3:00. For reference, the BTB is simple mahogany leather, not elephant.

I snapped a few quick photos with the iPhone to share, but I'll have a full review in a few weeks. First impressions matter, and mine could not be better. If you are in the market for new leather, you're making a mistake if you don't consider D.M. Bullard.

Very nice, I have considered the Bodyguard also. I carry a commander size 1911, do you find that the extra cant helps with printing of the butt of the frame? The "point" always is a print issue with me on a standard cant holster.
I'd rather be lucky than good any day

So you and I have the same concerns. In fact, it is such a concern that I was considering having my Commando bobbed in order to help with the issue (Colt Commando = Officer's ACP slide + Lightweight Commander frame). But I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I love the way the pistol handles, and I didn't want to devalue it with non-essential, permanent personalizations.

But the Bodyguard answered my concerns. The cant is such that the "point" is tucked in the kidney area and is hidden easily. I can carry in a comfortable, concealable position that allows for a quick, smooth draw. Standard cant holsters would almost make it worse for me; I was either positioning the holster so far back that my draw was effected or so far forward that my concealability was effected.

I'll take some pics when I get back into town tomorrow to show you.

The quality of D.M. Bullard holsters is great. Check the "in stock" area before ordering. I found one I liked and had it in a few days.

This is my Dan Wesson Valor in my D.M. Bullard Brown Tiger Shark holster and magazine carrier.

    Nice tiger shark!

The quality of their standard holsters is excellent and the prices are very fair. The exotic skins are on a totally different level for sure.

I looked at the hippo, tiger shark, elephant. All were nothing short of extraordinary. If you are looking for a compromise on cost, their tooled-leather is extremely nice as well.

Think of it as a personal (and family) security enhancement an it makes it a little better.
